Small accounting firm seeking experienced Bookkeeper in the Phoenix Metropolitan area to work with multiple nonprofit clients. This position is part-time, averaging 25 - 30 hours per week with full-time growth potential.
As a bookkeeper, you will use your technical and interpersonal skills, knowledge and experience to deliver excellent accounting customer service to a portfolio of nonprofit clientele. Once fully onboarded, you will work independently, directly with the client, supported by other team members and overseen by the Accounting Partner.
IDEAL CANDIDATE
- Has multi-client cloud accounting experience using systems such as Teams, QBO, BILL, Spend & Expense (formerly Divvy)
- Has 2-5 years’ experience running payroll, processing AP, closing monthly books and creating processes for cash & accrual-basis clients
- Intermediate accrual knowledge in maintaining detailed, audit-ready schedules for balance sheet accounts

DAY-TO-DAY EXPECTATIONS
- Manage a portfolio of clients with various levels of complexity
- Maintain accurate ledgers by coding transactions to appropriate departments, accounts, projects and classes
- Problem solve QBO banking, BILL or Expense reporting application sync errors
- Update accrual schedules and post journal entries
- Perform monthly balance sheet reconciliations
- Review financial reports for client discussion (questions & suggestions) and ultimately, accuracy
- Respond to client requests for specific accounting information or specific reports
Client interaction:
- Collaborate with internal team members and clients to pull data from external systems in order to complete monthly close
- Peripherally manage clients to meet monthly deadlines
- Provide a hands-on financial services experience to clients
QUALIFICATIONS
- 2 years of multi-client bookkeeping experience
- Advanced knowledge of QBO & BILL
- Certification will be required during onboarding if not already obtained
- Pursuit of higher education in Accounting, Bachelor’s degree in accounting is a plus.
- Advanced Excel skills including V-Lookups & Pivot Tables
- Excellent communication skills across digital platforms
- Keen attention to detail
- Strong analytical & problem-solving skills
- Excellent critical thinking skills
REQUIREMENTS
- Work schedule is Monday – Friday, expected 5 hours each day between 8am – 6pm

NPO Accountants is a for profit accounting firm that works exclusively with nonprofit organizations. The firm is led by Lisa Stevenson, MBA, CPA and Kristyn Kozar, MAcc, CPA. Lisa has more than 20 years nonprofit experience and more than 18 years accounting & audit experience. Kristyn has more than 10 years nonprofit experience and more than 8 years accounting & audit experience. The firm performs audits, reviews and compilations as well as providing general bookkeeping and accounting (for non-attest clients), prepares 990s and offers a variety of other consulting: training, writing or updating policies and procedure, Quickbooks online set up.
All staff operate remotely, but collaboratively. Staff members need their own reliable computer, internet, Microsoft Office and Adobe Acrobat software, for which the firm does provide a monthly stipend. Expert proficiency in both Excel and Word are required.
The position is primarily remote, though training will be hybrid to allow for more effective learning and team building. All accounting clients are located within the Phoenix metropolitan area, though most on-site meetings are attended by the Accounting Partner. Clients often kindly invite members of our team to attend events or visit their facilities to take advantage of their programming. The firm partners and staff plan at least semi-annual in-person & virtual gatherings and attend conferences throughout the year.
Our firm uses various software including, but not limited to Asana for project management, Harvest for time tracking, Microsoft Suite, Zoom, mytaxprepoffice for 990 services, Quickbooks Online for accounting clients.
