OVERVIEW

AGADA is a contract research organization (CRO) providing specialized services to pharmaceutical and biotech companies. Unlike most CROs, AGADA provides services in niche areas of research that require further standardization. Our mission is to facilitate and accelerate drug development for rare diseases, serving an international clientele. Key to accomplishing this mission is training and retaining a highly skilled workforce in Nova Scotia. We offer both preclinical drug efficacy studies in preclinical and clinical (human) trial drug development and support services. AGADA has performed over 100 drug efficacy studies in murine models of muscular dystrophy, has supported >50 Phase I/II clinical efficacy studies (Duchenne, Becker, ALS, DM1).

QUALIFICATIONS AND EDUCATION REQUIREMENTS

The minimum education requirement for a Research Associate position is a Bachelor of Science degree (BSc) from a Canadian recognized university. The candidate should have experience analyzing data in Excel and following standard operating procedures.

  • Participates in research and validation studies.
  • Performs hands-on experimental work in the laboratory providing support for biomarker testing
    • Western blot
    • qPCR
    • RT-PCR
    • ELISA
    • Immunoprecipitation assays
    • Next Generation sequencing (iSEQ)
    • Histology staining
    • Histology Imaging
    • Cell culture work
  • Prepares written scientific reports and delivers scientific presentations.
  • Carries out experimental designs working as part of the experimental team for preclinical and clinical trials.
  • Performs tissue sectioning.
  • Accurate record maintenance and analysis of all data.
  • Participates in regular Sponsor update meetings.
  • Standard Operating Procedure and experimental forms writing.
  • Participates in weekly general laboratory discussions with fellow staff and management.
  • Participates in research and validation studies if required.
  • Participates in receiving samples and reagents, managing inventory database, and performing quality checks for samples records.
  • Engages in teaching and training of. new team members.
  • Participates in trial-focused QC meetings.
  • Assists with the temperature monitoring of the refrigerating systems if needed
