Job Title: Community Food Centre Assistant
Contract full time (35 hours per week)
Reports to: Community Food Centre Coordinator

Background
ACSA is a nonprofit, multi-service agency addressing needs and empowering children, youth, newcomers, homeless, and otherwise underserved communities. Our core programs include housing and outreach programs, food security programs, newcomer services, youth outreach and therapy programs, child and family programs, early years’ programs, computer access programs, and community engagement.
ACSA is looking for a skilled individual with experience in community services/food security to assist the food bank coordinator with the operation and administration of the Food Centre.
Key Responsibilities:
Human Relations
- Welcome clients, volunteers, and donors to the space with a friendly attitude
- Demonstrate knowledge of food security and curiosity towards issues and progress in the sector
- Understand the issues impacting clients and a rights-based model of service delivery
- Assist clients as needed through Information and Referral
- Remain open to discussion with all stakeholders including volunteers and clients
- Ensure all students and volunteers are following health and safety standards in the food bank including safe food handling and safe lifting
- Participate in student/volunteer-led initiatives such as food demos and events
Administration
- Preview Daily Bread Food Bank orders weekly to confirm quantities ordered
- Become an expert and a trainer on food bank administration tasks such as the Link 2 Feed database, intakes, data entry, and monthly collection of statistics
- Attend Daily Bread Food Bank quarterly agency meetings
- Help maintain all information sheets relating to the food bank
- Design posters and signs as needed
- Record food donations and liaise with donors
Inventory
- Contribute to the team effort of unloading and organizing food deliveries
- Help manage the flow of food from receiving to storage and packing
- Supervise and assist with the packaging of food items such as bread, rice, and produce
- Maintain cleanliness of food bank such as surfaces, floors, equipment, cold-storage units and bins
General
- Contribute to the team effort in collecting statistical information about Food Bank and preparing reports
- Participate as a team member on the delivery of other activities in the agency
- Participate in agency Staff and department meetings as required
- Perform the responsibilities of the position within the legislative and regulatory standards set out in the applicable Acts. Perform the responsibilities of the position consistent with the policies of ACSA.
- Protect own health and health of others by adopting safe work practices, reporting unsafe conditions immediately. Follow all guidelines for employees and employers as legislated under the Ontario Occupational Health and Safety Act.
- Perform other duties as required.
Qualifications / Skills Required:
- College diploma or higher in social/human/community studies or relevant work/volunteer experience
- Familiar with an anti-oppressive (AOP) / client-centered approach
- Experience working with volunteers and/or clients in a community setting
- Motivated, with excellent problem-solving skills
- Excellent command of the English language, both written and verbal
- Safe food handling training is an asset
- Knowledge of a second language spoken in the community preferred
- Full G License in an asset
