Important Information: This is an Outpatient Lab position working with a static Schedule. Hours of work are 0745-1600, M-F. Child Comprehensive Cancer Centre’s Outpatient Collections Lab. You will be part of this dynamic team who provides exceptional and compassionate laboratory collection services to the patients we serve. As a Medical Laboratory Assistant I, you will provide high quality service to clients of the clinical laboratory in an effective, efficient and safe manner. You will be responsible for a variety of laboratory functions including procurement, handling, processing, dispatching and testing of specimens, performing procedures and reporting results.
Completion of an accredited Medical Laboratory Assistant program or equivalent.
Additional Required Qualifications:Skilled in straight needle phlebotomy and difficult venipunctures within the last year. Proficiency in data entry and comfortable working in a fast paced, high-volume environment. EPIC experience (Hyperspace/Rover) within the last year. Physical ability to perform the duties of the position. Ability to cooperate, work independently, and promote good teamwork. Perception, initiative, good judgment, and concern for detail and accuracy. Ability to demonstrate tact and courtesy in dealing with patients, staff, and physicians. Ability to work under pressure and in emergencies. Practices effective biological protection, infection control, and safety. Able to be fitted to all required PPE (respiratory masks, gloves, gowns).
Preferred Qualifications:Experience in neonatal skin puncture. Courses or certificates in personal leadership development. Courses or training in process improvement or change management. Demonstrates initiative, analytical thinking and problem-solving skills. Experience interpreting workflow visuals and ability to respond appropriately to meet turnaround times. Demonstrated ability to lead self through change. National certification with CSMLS. Intermediate competency in Microsoft Office.
