Ampjack Industries Ltd. is an innovative solution provider in the high voltage electrical transmission line field, providing upgrade design services to the utility asset management industry. These services include design and engineering, maintenance and testing, program management, construction, and turnkey EPC projects.

Ampjack is looking for a transmission line drafter/modeler to join our engineering team based in Winnipeg, MB.

Primary Function

Under the direction of the Engineering Manager or Team Lead perform 3D modelling, analysis, and drafting of high voltage transmission lines, structures, and foundations working as part of a team consisting of drafters, modelers, designers, and engineers. Structures include monopoles, frames, and lattice towers from 66kV to 735kV. The focus of the drafting/modelling duties will be in support of Ampjack’s transmission line asset maintenance and upgrade contracts. Successful candidates will report to the Engineering Manager.

Duties & Responsibilities

Employee may be called upon to perform any or all of the following functions:

  • Use AutoDesk Inventor to 3D model existing structures as well as new and sometimes complex designs;
  • Prepare engineering drawings and complete revisions as per markups by others;
  • Perform Engineering support tasks under limited supervision;
  • Learn and apply the corporate standard of drafting and engineering practices;
  • Learn and properly use the document management system;
  • Take personal responsibility for the quality and accuracy of his/her work;
  • Bring potential project-related problems and possible solutions to the attention of the responsible party;
  • Research information in catalogues, design codes, specifications, corporate and client standards, and other reference material; and
  • Travel to project sites for short periods of time as required by projects and assignments.

Qualifications

Technologist diploma in either Civil (Structural) or Mechanical Engineering is required. A certificate in Drafting/Design with relevant work experience may be accepted in lieu of a degree.

Candidates should possess skills in the following areas:

  • AutoDesk Inventor experience is preferred, however experience with other solid modelling software such as SolidWorks, Solid Edge, etc. will be considered.
  • PLS-CADD/Tower/Pole experience would be considered an asset.
  • Drafting, drawing layout, and a high degree of accuracy and attention to detail in reading and interpreting existing drawings of legacy structures and field notes
  • Experience with MS Office including Outlook, Excel, and Word
  • Working in a team environment
  • Communicating effectively with co-workers
  • Must be at least 18 years of age and legally authorized to work in Canada on a permanent basis without visa sponsorship.
  • Must be willing to work overtime on an as needed basis
  • Must be willing to travel and have a valid passport (or be eligible to apply for a passport).
  • Must possess a valid driver’s license
  • Aptitude and ability to learn computer programs used in transmission line design and analysis, such as PLSCADD, PLS TOWER and Autodesk Inventor.
  • Working knowledge of computer application skills in AutoCAD, and Microsoft office suite
  • Must demonstrate a high degree of initiative and ability to interact effectively with others at all levels both inside and outside the corporation.
  • Develop initiative and judgment to effectively analyze technical problems in changing situations.
  • Comprehension of engineering techniques and standards.
  • Develop written and oral communication skills.
  • Must be at least 18 years of age and legally authorized to work in Canada on a permanent basis without visa sponsorship.
  • Must be willing to work overtime on an as needed basis.
  • Must be willing to travel and have a valid passport (or be eligible to apply for a passport).
  • Must possess a valid Driver’s License.
