A Day in the Life…

Reporting to the Manager, Student Accessibility Services, the Case Manager will provide support to students with disabilities by participating in assessment interviews, reviewing medical documentation and developing accommodation plans. The Case Manager will work with faculty and university departments, providing disability-related solution-focused education and advising.

As the Case Manager, you will:

  • Consult with students and develop accommodation plans;
  • Liaise and advocate with faculty for appropriate academic accommodations;
  • Problem-solve academic/learning or emotional issues with students;
  • Facilitate referrals within Brock and accompany students to access the information for supports they may require;
  • Maintain detailed case notes and documentation in the departmental data management system;
  • Assess and monitor students identified as students at risk; work with the Campus Assessment, Response & Education (CARE) team to support at-risk students;
  • Develop and provide a range of services to students with disabilities that will assist in developing self-advocacy, academic skills and encourage student development;
  • Offer transition support to students who are transitioning from high school or college to university;
  • Assist students in obtaining required documentation by providing relevant information and referral letters/packages to appropriate professionals both on and off-campus;
  • Provide mediation and conflict resolution between students, faculty and staff in regard to appropriate accommodations, policy development and flexible options in response to disability-related needs;
  • Work as part of the team on initiatives to promote awareness and sensitivity to disability-related issues within the Brock community.

What you need to succeed…

  • Master’s degree in Applied Disability Studies, Social Work, or Applied Psychology or 5 years of relevant experience;
  • 2 years of progressive experience, working specifically with individuals with mental health disabilities;
  • Knowledge of the functional impact of disability related concerns and the resulting impact on student’s academic and social participation in a post-secondary educational environment;
  • Knowledge of funding opportunities for students with disabilities e.g. BSWD, BUSU Student Health Plan, ODSP;
  • Working knowledge of universal instructional design;
  • Awareness of community resources to facilitate appropriate referrals and support for students with disabilities;
  • Knowledge of assistive technology and implications for students in the post-secondary educational environment.
  • Expertise in assisting students to problem-solve learning issues, with the ability to implement appropriate intervention for students e.g., self-advocacy skill development, time management training;
  • Demonstrated experience delivering disability-related counselling e.g., transition issues, course-specific concerns, employment issues; crisis intervention and case management services;
  • Strong understanding of Ministry of Training Colleges and Universities (MTCU) mandates for providing accessibility services and legislative requirements;
  • Effective communication skills and the ability to advocate for the needs of students;
  • Strong negotiation, problem solving, conflict resolution and mediation skills.

Preferred or Asset Skills

  • Experience in a post-secondary environment.

Salary and Benefit Information

  • Job Grade (L), Salary Scale ($62,580-$107,280)*;
  • Target Hiring Range: $62,580-$64,000
  • This position includes full comprehensive benefits including tuition waiver.

*The salary range indicated is representative of all positions evaluated at this level. Actual salary is determined by assessing related skills, experience, internal equity and market competitiveness, subject to available budget.
