Position Summary
Reporting to the Manager of Agriculture Western Event Operations, the Agriculture Specialist is responsible for overseeing the exhibitor/competitive services as it relates to agriculture & western event programs. Working within a diverse portfolio of events and sanctioning bodies, this role will execute on the processes aligning with competitive events or programs.

Roles and Responsibilities
Responsibilities of the role include, but are not limited to:
- Manage budgets, including analyzing opportunities to reduce costs and increase profitability, tracking, and produce reports
- Manage the competition cycle ensuring prize money pay out documentation is completed, maintained and processed in adherence with external sanctioning bodies
- Develop and deliver a project management plan to ensure successful delivery of competitive event programs
- Influence and control show rules and regulations to ensure they are being upheld and adhered to by the Calgary Stampede Animal Care Code of Practice
- Oversee exhibitor information, documentation, entry confirmations, and show results
- Establish and develop working relationships with external event governing bodies
- Provide comparisons and analytical summaries for management and committee executives on exhibitor/competitor entries
- Recruit and retain exhibitor/competitors through marketing strategies and exceptional customer/guest experiences
- Liaise with consultants to correct problems and initiate improvements to systems and processes
- Provide technical support to staff and customers regarding software applications and website navigation
- Research and develop future enhancements of data collection, scoring and analysis
- Lead seasonal staff and show office staff during peak seasons and events
- Develop and execute special projects and program initiatives as assigned
Qualifications and Education Requirements
- Post-secondary Diploma or Associate Degree in Agriculture, Business, Event Management or Finance
- Minimum 5 years’ experience in a livestock exhibition environment, rodeo and competition event
- Knowledge of animal care and livestock
- Advanced knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite
- Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills
- Advanced knowledge of event programming and operations
- Strong understanding of volunteer-based programs
- Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written
- Strong planning and organizational skills
- Ability to develop and maintain effective relationships
