Cambrian is seeking a Loss Prevention Specialist. As a crucial member of our Loss Prevention Team, you play an integral role in working with members to minimize potential credit and non-credit losses prior to the default of loans, lines of credits, mortgages, and commercial loans or due to fraud. The Loss Prevention Specialist will have excellent communication, collaboration and influence skills and exhibit professionalism and compassion when interacting with our members.
The Loss Prevention Specialist is to provide sound direction, counselling, and guidance to Credit Union members and when necessary, negotiate compromises. Further, the Loss Prevention Specialist is to contribute internal loss prevention recommendations to minimize risk and/or liability to Cambrian Credit Union.
In the role of Loss Prevention Specialist, you will:
- Consistently provide prompt, accurate, efficient, and professional service to branches and external contacts.
- Demonstrate personal commitment to working in a team environment through consistent performance and reliability. Willingly assist team co-workers with tasks or projects. Assist the Recovery Specialist, branches, and external contacts in resolving any problems and inquiries in a prompt, courteous and professional manner.
- Work with Credit Union members to understand the triggers causing financial stress and identify and approve solutions to prevent default and reduce or eliminate potential write offs.
- Protect against credit losses by identifying risk in the retail credit portfolio through a series of resources, and engaging mitigating measures to return the Credit Unions higher risk account to performing status.
- Adhere to assigned Lending Limits Matrix for restructuring existing credit to limit future losses and for the settlement and write-off of debts.
- Ensure all required new credit documentation is accurately and efficiently completed, and that all assigned tasks, activities, reports are completed within designated time frames and adhere to Loan Policy and the consumers loan manual, to minimize any risk or liability to the credit union.
- Investigate all potential fraud and determine the appropriate course of action to prevent loss and mitigate risk; Responsible for delinquency report follow up, rejection report decisions, loss prevention referrals from Branches and Sales & Service, and failed ALOC reviews.
- Provide guidance to members, branches and other departments should a member fall victim to a scam or fraudulent event. Provide information to the Supervisor, Loss Prevention on recent frauds and trends to communicate internally to alleviate further loss.
- Refer accounts for commencement of legal action, recovery and CUMIS claims.
Your Education & Experience:
- Minimum education level of Grade 12 or equivalent, with post-secondary education considered an asset.
- Minimum 4 years of experience in member interviews and credit approvals preferred.
- Previous experience delivering financial advice on complex credit and deposit services considered an asset.
- Demonstrated experience in an administrative role.
- Experience working in a credit union, considered an asset.
- Proficient in PC applications of Outlook, Word & Excel.
- Creative thinker/ problem solver, with a member-centred approach and strong drive to continuously improve and add value to the business.
- Ability to work well in an environment with multiple and often changing priorities.
