Position Summary: The Development Intern will support the department in ongoing/upcoming projects and will take on various responsibilities pertaining to the land development process.
Responsibilities:
Provide administrative support to the Development team with various projects and assignments, including developing and maintaining project files, and the preparation of correspondence, memos, spreadsheets, and/or presentations.
Assist in the preparation of multi-family development due diligence and market research activities related to existing assets, conversions, and new development.
Assist with the coordination and submission of a range of planning and development application packages and documents to approval authorities and other stakeholders.
Coordinate and attend internal and external project meetings, prepare agendas, take minutes, and distribute, as necessary.
Perform other supportive duties as required.
Key Competencies:
Familiarity with relevant legislation and policies including the Planning Act, Provincial Policy Statement (PPS), Growth Plan, municipal Official Plans and Zoning By-Laws.
Understanding of municipal planning approval processes, such as Official Plan Amendments, Zoning By-Law Amendments, Plan of Condominium, Site Plan Control applications, and Consents and Minor Variances.
Ability to read building plans and drawings to assist with the coordination of various construction and development projects.
Capacity to work in a fast-paced team environment while remaining flexible to changing priorities.
Qualifications:
Currently enrolled in an Urban Planning, Real Estate Management, or equivalent post- secondary degree co-operative education program.
Familiarity with principles and practices of urban planning, urban design and land development.
Knowledge of Microsoft Office and Adobe Creative Suite.
Knowledge of 3D modelling software, such as SketchUp, is an asset.
Excellent analytical, communication and organization skills, with attention to detail.
