SUMMARY

To provide guidance and leadership under direction of the Security Manager to the Security Department at Century Casino Edmonton. Provide guidance and leadership to Security Supervisors and Security Guards, ensuring the security of company assets, the facilities, employees, volunteer workers and guests. The Security Assistant Manager will ensure that all security team members consistently, diplomatically and professionally maintain good relations with patrons, as well as staff. Ensures that all tasks and responsibilities will be carried out successfully in alignment with AGLC regulations, Casino Terms and Conditions, operating guidelines, and Century's policies and procedures. The entire Security Team will ensure compliance with local, provincial, and federal laws. Additionally, the Security Team will uphold, maintain, and communicate safety and security policies and procedures to both customers and staff. Report to the Security Manager all pertinent information of daily activities and any key events.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

1.Within the realm of the responsibility of the job, maintains a clean and safe work environment.

2.Performs duties in compliance with safety procedures, which includes the use of safety equipment. Incumbents are responsible for following safety procedures identifying unsafe practices or conditions, and informing senior management or the Safety Committee of unsafe conditions, as directed.

3.Manages and supervises the day-to-day operations of security personnel under the direction of the Security Manager.

4.Executes assigned duties positively and professionally following AGLC, Casino Terms and Conditions, Century operating guidelines, and established policies set out in the Security Policy and Procedures manual.

5.Supervises and trains security personnel on the enforcement of applicable laws and regulations as set out in the criminal code of Canada, provincial statutes, municipal by-laws and Century terms and conditions and operating guidelines.

6.Ensure the safety of all patrons, employees and property.

7.Provides direction to security personnel on a day-to-day basis on the execution of their duties as detailed in the security policy and procedures manual.

8.May participate in the hiring process.

9.Documents and reports procedure infractions and recommends disciplinary actions of security staff to the Security Manager.

10.Prepares and maintains a shift schedule, ensuring that the Century security requirements are met.

11.In consultation with management, develops site-specific policies and procedures.

12.Conducts internal security investigations as required.

13.Liaises with senior management providing advice and assistance as required.

14.Trains subordinates on an ongoing basis regarding their primary responsibilities are pursuant to AGLC, Casino, Terms and Conditions, legislation, operating guidelines and the Security Policy and Procedure Manual.

15.Ensures that Security team members know their responsibilities, powers and limitations as authorized by law.

16.Liaises with the local police services regarding calls for service and any serious occurrences.

17.Ensures that Security team members are trained in and aware of emergency response procedures.

18.Maintains documentation identifying individuals who have been banned from Century properties.

19.Assists patrons expressing a desire to enroll in the AGLC Self-Exclusion Program, according to the Alberta Gaming and Liquor Commission's memorandum.

20.Maintains the harmony, cohesiveness and any progressive disciplinary action of all Security team members with regards to complaints and wellbeing. Will diplomatically settle any disputes between Security personnel, management and patrons.

21.Assist the Security Manager with key control measures for the property and report locks or keys that require repair or replacement.

22.When required, cover a vacant or absentee spot should a cancellation occur. This could also apply to other Century Properties.

23.Reports to work as scheduled, on time and ready to work. Schedule developed by the Security Manager to best meet the needs of the organization.

24.Be able to perform the duties of all Security team members, including the Manager.

25.All other duties as assigned.


SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES

Responsible for supervising Security team members, and providing them with guidance, mentoring and coaching.

QUALIFICATIONS

Experience providing and enforcing security services, including crowd control. Experience in effective and diplomatic customer service and communication skills, including contact with employees, customers and experience handling difficult customer relations.

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE

High School Diploma. A combination of education and experience may be considered. Gaming related experience preferred but not essential. Ten (10) or more years of recent and related experience in security enforcement is desirable. Three (3) or more years of experience in a management position is desirable. Law enforcement courses, experience or security background, are an asset.

CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS

Must have a valid and current Alberta Gaming and Liquor Commission Gaming License. Must have and maintain current certifications in; Deal Us In phase #1, Deal Us In phase #2, ProTect, ProServe, Anti-Money Laundering (AML), Standard First Aid Level C with AED and have a working knowledge of WHMIS 2015 and FINTRAC. Must be able to pass a criminal background check.

LANGUAGE SKILLS

Must be proficient, diplomatic, effective and have demonstrated both oral and written communication skills using English.

MATHEMATICAL SKILLS

Basic Math skills are required.

REASONING ABILITY

Takes actions and makes recommendations beyond the scope of essential duties, which may positively or negatively impact other departments.

OTHER SKILLS AND ABILITIES

Knowledge of Century, FINTRAC, AML and AGLC’s policies and procedures and how they pertain to security. Must have and maintain professional radio communication when communicating over the radio. Knowledge of a phonetic alphabet beneficial.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS

The physical demands described here represent those that must be met by an employee to perform the essential functions of this job successfully. Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential function.

Essential duties involve performing physical exertion, frequent brisk walking, climbing stairs, stooping, bending, stretching, reaching, pushing (including stalled cars) and standing for an entire work shift with standard breaks. Essential duties require lifting up to 50 pounds, working any day of the week and any shift in the day. May be subject to exposure to body fluids from persons who may have been injured or requiring First Aid.

WORK ENVIRONMENT

Essential duties involve working with large numbers of people in an indoor and outdoor environment. Extreme temperature changes and adverse weather conditions including: wind, rain, snow, cold, heat, and frequently loud or high noise levels.

MATERIALS AND EQUIPMENT DIRECTLY USED

Various security-related equipment including digital cameras, portable two-way radios, emergency first aid equipment, fire control panel and surveillance equipment. General office equipment including computers, fax machines, scanners and photocopiers.
