As the Superintendent, Recreation Service Delivery, you will be a part of the Recreation Service Delivery leadership team responsible for leading the direct delivery of recreation services at City of Calgary recreation facilities. You will provide guidance to direct reports to ensure our facilities and amenities are effectively managed, well maintained, that services meet the needs of our customers and partners, and our staff have the resources required to do their jobs. Additionally, you will manage a variety of complex portfolio assignments in alignment with business unit and department goals and objectives. Primary duties include:
Provide oversight, support and guidance to direct reports in executing human resource functions within the section, including recruitment, training and development, assignment of work, coaching and mentoring, performance management and evaluation, and discipline up to termination, as required.
Lead process, operating policy and best practice development for products, services and facility operations for all City of Calgary Recreation facilities and amenities.
Ensure that all Recreation regional staff are aware of and follow safety standards and safety requirements.
Participate in the development of divisional and regional strategic planning, business planning and annual work planning in coordination with regional managers.
Monitor, manage and report on operating budgets assigned to the section, including the development of budget reporting at the site and regional levels.
Develop strategies to minimize impacts as a result of capital upgrades or shutdowns to facilities, including but not limited to meeting with user groups and working with HR to determine staffing impacts.
Manage partnerships, including relationship management, and monitor existing leases and agreements to ensure positive working relationships, while mitigating issues as they arise.
Qualifications
A completed 2-year diploma with at least 8 years of experience in the Recreation industry, OR;
A degree with at least 4 years of experience in the Recreation industry.
Equivalent combinations of experience and education may be considered.
You must possess business acumen, sound judgment and decision making, leadership, and team building skills.
Excellent customer service, communication skills, and problem solving skills are required.
Report writing and experience presenting to Council would be considered assets.
