As a Utility Inspector, you will monitor and inspect the installation of water, wastewater and drainage infrastructure in new development and redevelopment areas. You will ensure assets of the best quality are built and accepted for network integrity while protecting existing infrastructure, the public and the environment. Primary duties include:
Ensure installations meet specifications, standards and codes, and conform to approved drawings, plans and profiles through verification of depth, grade, line assignment, materials and environmental protection.
Perform pressure, leakage and chlorination tests, flushing of mains, and water quality sampling.
Issue permits and field/work orders to ensure compliance and facilitate quality and process improvement.
Prepare inspection and installation reports and certify construction completion and final acceptance.
Liaise and collaborate with the development industry and partners on work planning, deficiency management, solutioning, education programs, and to resolve customer complaints and inquiries,
Review CCTV submissions and as-built drawings for acceptance, provide expert design/operational support, and perform duties such as relief and business support and special projects.
Qualifications
A High School Diploma or equivalency (e.g. GED), job-related course work and at least 5 years of experience OR;
A completed 2 year technical diploma in an Engineering related discipline accompanied by at least 3 years of experience designing, installing, or inspecting/supervising construction of water utility infrastructure.
A valid Class 5 Driver's Licence (or provincial equivalent), with no more than 6 demerits and no current suspensions or charges pending OR; a valid Graduated Driver's Licence (GDL) with no more than 4 demerits and no current suspensions or charges pending.
Working knowledge of underground utility construction standards and specifications, safety and environmental regulations is required.
An intermediate level of proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, Outlook) is required.
Excellent time and priority management skills, the ability to work well under pressure, a strong customer focus, and the ability to work effectively in both a team environment and independently.
Strong analytical, problem-solving, decision-making, communication and interpersonal skills.
Possess a high attention to detail and thoroughness, with the ability to see the big picture.
Working Conditions: Office and outdoor work around construction sites in all-weather conditions.
Pre-employment Requirements
Must obtain a City of Calgary operator's permit.
Successful applicants must provide proof of qualifications.
Pre-employment Drug Test: An offer of employment for this position will be conditional on an applicant passing a pre-employment drug test. This test assesses for use of drugs including cannabis. Failure to pass a pre-employment drug test may prevent an applicant from being hired into any safety sensitive position for a period of up to twelve months.
