Job Posting for Seasonal Skilled Labourer at City of Winnipeg
Under general supervision, the Skilled Labourer performs various manual labour duties within the Wastewater Services Division.
As the Seasonal Skilled Laboureryou will:
Inspect the wastewater collection system, identify and record all deficiencies and carry out repairs where directed.
Assist in cleaning and thawing catch basins/culverts.
Assist in repairs; signing and barricading work areas; notifying the public; removing signs and barricades as operationally required.
Operate a variety of tools such as pumps, power tools, and hand tools and maintain them in a safe condition.
Maintain and repair street/boulevard cuts by pouring and finishing concrete or laying soil / seed / sod.
Operate, clean and maintain vehicles such as pick-up trucks or vans in accordance with departmental policies.
Maintain shops, garages and yards in a safe and clean condition. Maintain yard and vehicle inventories to ensure their continuous availability.
Assist in flood control operations (makes sure pumps are running, filled with gas, etc.)
Ensure compliance with Workers Compensation Legislation, Human Rights Legislation, safety regulations and safe work practices.
Perform other related duties consistent with the position as assigned.
Your education and qualifications include:
Grade 10, or an equivalent combination of training and experience.
Ability to operate a variety of tools and/or machinery to perform general maintenance/repair work.
Ability to follow written and verbal instructions.
Demonstrated ability to establish and maintain positive working relationships with employees at all levels of the organization, external contacts and the public, in accordance with the Respectful Workplace Standard.
Knowledge of how Department facilities operate and knowledge of the Department’s structure.
Knowledge of a variety of materials and products utilized by the department.
Complies with all safety regulations and follows safe work practices.
Must have or be willing to obtain First Aid Basic within 6 months of the appointment of this position.
Conditions of employment:
The successful applicant must maintain legal eligibility to work in Canada. If the successful applicant possesses a work permit, it is their responsibility to ensure the permit remains valid.
A Police Information Check satisfactory to the employer will be required from the successful candidate, at their expense.
Must possess and maintain a valid Class 5 Manitoba Driver’s Licence.
