Job description
We are looking to hire an experienced, sales-oriented optometric assistant/optician with significant dispensing experience for our full-scope optometric practice in Calgary. This is a 6-month term contract with the possibility of extension. The position is 2-3 days per week (16-24 hours per week), including 1-2 days with evening hours (e.g., 11-6/7pm) and Saturdays.

Core Responsibilities
- Educate and assist patients in selecting eyewear (frames, lens, and coating options) best suited for their lifestyle
- Obtain specifications for lens and accurately complete patient measurements
- Place orders with lens vendors and navigate ordering systems effectively
- Dispense glasses and train patients as needed
- Adjust finished eyeglasses to fit the client and perform repairs as needed
- Manage product inventory and ensure quality control
- Work collaboratively with doctors and staff in delivering exceptional patient experience and satisfaction
Sales Responsibilities
- Educating and assisting patients with eyewear offerings (frames and lens)
- Selling eyewear and related products
- Placing orders with lens and frame vendors and navigating online ordering systems
- Dispensing glasses to patients
- Adjusting glasses and performing repairs
Administrative and Clinical Responsibilities
- Greeting, checking in, and directing patients; Answering the phone
- Scheduling doctor and dispensing appointments
- Administering clinical pre-tests prior to eye exam
- Contact lens training and fitting.
- Maintaining the Electronic Medical Records system.
-Processing patient invoices and filing insurance billings
-Maintaining accounts receivable/payable
Your Qualifications
-Optometric Assistant or optician with extensive dispensing experience
- Strong sales ability and previous experience selling products in an optical setting
- Demonstrable experience and comfort working with monthly sales targets
- Experience and/or ease working with diverse clientele
- Experience working with and selling a range of eye-wear products, from budget friendly to higher-end products
- Significant knowledge and experience working with a wide range of ophthalmic lenses/vendors
- Keen eye for fashionable eyewear that matches patients' unique styles
- Ability to consistently deliver exceptional patient/customer experience
- Friendly, positive, upbeat, and agreeable personality
- Ability to work well with others in a small team environment absolutely critical
- Hardworking, diligent, organized, and punctual
- Technological savviness: ability to work with basic office software (e.g., Word, Excel, PDF)
- Willingness and ability to learn and adapt to new technologies quickly and effectively
- Strong oral and written communication skills
- Ability to multitask and maintain a positive outlook when busy
- Experience with Electronic Medical Record (EMR) systems (experience with Optosys is a strong asset).
- Experience with Alberta Blue Cross, TELUS, and other insurance portals considered an asset
