Dick’s Lumber in Surrey is looking for an experienced, organized and detail-oriented team player to join our team as a Yard and Warehouse Manager.
:
· Directs and monitors work activities, establishes priorities, delegates tasks, monitors performance and follows up to ensure timely completion.
· Establishes performance standards and schedules the training for staff development; including arranging the training of all yard personnel, safety orientations and forklift training. Ensures all required certifications are current and maintains training documentations accordingly.
· Demonstrates excellent communication/people skills and problem-solving ability when dealing with customers and co-workers and takes action to address both staff and customer concerns and complaints.
· Builds a strategic relationship between the yard and store operations.
· Ensures compliance with operational and safety policies/procedures, while taking appropriate action as a Management Representative on the Joint Health and Safety Committee.
· Ensures department has a strong focus on customer service by establishing and maintaining service standards.
· Recommends efficient warehouse and yard layouts, and ensures damage and shrink are minimized.
· Supervises yard inventory counts for both cyclical and year-end inventory and maintains adequate inventories of all yard products, ensuring shortages and low inventory are reported to the buying department.
· Ensures all required paperwork and documentation is completed in an accurate and timely fashion.
· Ensures basic building and yard repairs are completed in a timely manner.
· Minimizes vehicle and equipment expense and down time.
· Performs other job- related duties as required.
QUALIFICATIONS:
· Strong leadership skills to direct the efforts of the warehouse and yard staff to resolve customer complaints and motivate and maintain morale.
· Proven experience managing in a unionized environment.
· Fluent in English (spoken and written) with excellent listening, communication and interpersonal skills to deal effectively with individuals within and outside the organization.
· Strong knowledge of lumber, building materials and hardware products.
· Professional, courteous and punctual with a focus on customer service.
· Must have a positive attitude and be a team player.
· Excellent time management and organizational skills.
· Detail oriented with strong organizational skills.
· Knowledge of Occupational Health and Safety Regulations and other pertinent legislation.
WORKING CONDITIONS:
· Exposure to dust, dirt and extreme changes in temperature and weather.
· Moderate exposure to personal risk; safety boots are required.
· Busy, high volume environment.
