Centre 170 – Employment Opportunity
The Remand Visitation Centre has several immediate openings for temporary positions (until May 31, 2024) for our Centre 170 Team. We are looking to fill part time positions with hours varying from 16 to 30 hours per week. A high school diploma is mandatory and post-secondary education and employment/volunteer work in the criminal justice field will be viewed as an asset. Knowledge on the Elizabeth Fry Society and its mission statement would also be advantageous.
The New Edmonton Remand Centre opened in May of 2013 in the North end of Edmonton. Due to the new location being off bus routes and relatively remote, the New Edmonton Remand Centre has been set up to utilize video visitation technology to allow visitation to those incarcerated. The Alberta Justice and Solicitor General has contracted out Centre 170, to the Elizabeth Fry Society of Edmonton.
The main duties of Centre 170 will include facilitating personal visits every day, 12 hours a day. Shifts range between four and eight hours and between the hours of 8:30 am – 9:00 pm.
Beyond the scope of the daily operation of the Visitation Centre, it is our hope to work with community agencies and members provide additional support, referrals, and resources and develop future opportunities where we may best assist the families of those who are incarcerated at the New Edmonton Remand Centre.
