We are looking for an Articling Clerk to join our Corporate Legal Team here in Halifax, NS. As an Articling Clerk within our Corporate Legal team you will:

Be involved in corporate transactions;

Draft commercial agreement, including the purchase and sale of various goods and services, commodity (natural gas and power) agreements, real estate, electricity purchase and sale arrangements;

Have significant exposure to contract negotiations and drafting;

Provide advice on legislation, regulations, licenses, permits and approvals governing our operations;

Be exposed to securities filings;
-
Prepare for, and attend hearings before various administrative tribunals, including the Nova Scotia Utilities and Review Board;

Be involved in compliance issues that arise in relation to our businesses; and

Research various legal issues.
What skills will make you successful?
Preference will be given to candidates with strong academic performance, particularly in business law courses, an interest in the energy, regulatory, or environmental fields, and the following skills and experience:

A results-oriented focus is essential, as is the ability to work in a fast-paced changing environment and effectively manage several projects and deadlines simultaneously;

Strong verbal and written communication skills: ability to influence and communicate effectively across the company and externally at all levels;

Proven ability to work in a complex, regulated corporate environment;

Superior writing skills including the ability to compile information from research, case files or verbal direction, in order to draft documentation;

Confidence and a willingness to take on new challenges;

Proficient with the use of information technology tools.
Please note: Only candidates expected to graduate with an LL.B. or J.D. from a Canadian law school in 2026, and eligible to commence articles in accordance with the Nova Scotia Barristers’ Society rules are encouraged to apply by December 4, 2024.
