FICS is seeking an experienced bookkeeper to work with our Director of Finance to manage the financial operations of several entities including a Not-for-profit and a charitable organization, Canadian Physicians for Aid and Relief, with ongoing health-strengthening programs in Ethiopia, Malawi, and Tanzania.

The bookkeeper is responsible for day to day bookkeeping as well as contributing to financial analysis and reporting. As a Bookkeeper, you will play a crucial role in maintaining the financial health of our organization. Your attention to detail, proficiency in accounting software, and strong analytical skills will contribute to accurate financial reporting and decision-making. This opportunity offers a range of between $25-$35 a a part-time role. We also welcome applications from self-employed bookkeepers, please advise of your rates as part of your application.

Responsibilities

  • Process accounts payable and accounts receivable transactions
  • Use Quickbooks to record and track financial transactions
  • Keep organized files of financial records
  • Provide support during annual financial audits
  • Perform bank reconciliations to ensure accuracy of financial data
  • Process payroll and ensure compliance with relevant regulations
  • Prepare invoices and HST/GST rebates

Qualifications and Skills

  • Proven experience as a Bookkeeper or in a similar role
  • Strong knowledge of accounting principles and practices
  • Proficiency in using accounting software, preferably QuickBooks
  • Familiarity with payroll processing and relevant regulations
  • Excellent attention to detail and accuracy in data entry
  • Ability to prioritize tasks and meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment

This role will require some in-office work at our offices in downtown Ottawa. Working from home can be accommodated on some of days of the week, if preferred.
