Job Description:

We are seeking a skilled Mortgage Underwriter to join our team and take on the vital responsibility of conducting application fulfillment. In this position, you will play a critical part in facilitating the mortgage process by: assessing loan applications, ensuring compliance with regulatory requirements, and assisting Mortgage Brokers in delivering exceptional service to our clients. This role demands effective and timely communication, professionalism and an exceptionally high attention to detail.

Key responsibilities:

  • Review mortgage loan applications, collected supporting documents, and financial information provided by borrowers to assess loan eligibility
  • Assess the completeness, accuracy, and validity of the application package, ensuring all necessary forms are properly completed.
  • Ensure strict adherence to regulatory guidelines governing mortgage lending. Verify compliance with internal policies and quality standards throughout the underwriting process.
  • Cultivate strong client relationships by providing personalized service, addressing inquiries, and maintaining regular communication throughout the mortgage process.
  • Collaborate closely with mortgage brokers to clarify and obtain any missing or additional information necessary for loan approval.
  • Provide clear and concise explanations of underwriting decisions, requirements, and conditions to clients involved in the loan process.
  • Stay up-to-date with industry trends, regulatory changes, and underwriting guidelines to maintain a high level of proficiency and ensure compliance

Qualifications:

  • Must hold a valid and up-to-date mortgage license
  • Must have 5 years previous experience as a Mortgage Underwriter
  • Profound knowledge in mortgage products, industry terminology and financial statements
  • Strong understanding of mortgage loan underwriting principles, guidelines, and regulatory requirements.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft & Google applications, Finmo/Lendesk, Filogix and the capacity to quickly learn new technologies and systems
  • Excellent analytical and critical-thinking skills to assess risk
  • Detail-oriented with exceptional organizational and time management abilities.
  • Effective written and verbal communication skills
  • Ability to work collaboratively in a team-oriented environment.
  • Strong problem-solving skills and the ability to handle complex situations independently

Preferred:

  • Previous experience at a financial institution or related
  • Ability to speak fluently in another language

What we offer:

  • Highly competitive compensation package which includes: base salary and commission
  • Remote work (some in-person team meetings)

Job Type: Full-time

Salary: $36,000.00-$120,000.00 per year

Schedule:

  • Monday to Friday
  • Weekends as needed

Supplemental pay types:

  • Commission pay
