Your Role
The Andrologist is responsible for the assessment preparation and preservation of human semen samples for their use in various treatments for infertility.
Job Responsibilities:
· Assess human semen samples for their suitability.
· Performs test to assess the sperm function and provides feedback based on those results as to the potential fertility of the patient.
· Makes recommendations as to the most appropriate treatment.
· Prepares fresh and frozen samples for IUI and IVF.
· Prepares and freezes semen samples.
· Maintains the cyrobank.
· Ensures that all technical procedures are carried out according to the laboratory procedure manual in a reliable competent manner.
· Ensures all communications of the department are screened and acted upon ensure the correct identification of specimens and conveys to the Laboratory Director/Lead Embryologist/Andrology and Phlebotomy Team Lead or promptly deals with any unsuitable specimens.
· Issues provisional reports according to protocol so that delays in transmitting information to the medical staff are minimized.
· Records data on test/procedures in a clear and concise way, so that all staff members can immediately understand what test/procedures have been performed and what results obtained.
· Conveys any significant abnormal test procedure results to the Laboratory Director (Lead embryologist) or take appropriate action as required.
· Ensures that an adequate inventory of reagents media and lab supplies are in readiness at all times to perform tests and procedures.
· Brings to the attention of the Laboratory Director/Lead Embryologist or ask upon any errors detected or made and respond as objectively as possible.
· Uses all laboratory equipment according to laboratory protocols and guidelines and reports or appears actual or potential malfunctions immediately.
· Becomes familiar with all new or revised procedures as they become available and maintains laboratory currency by regular review of the Laboratory Manual.
· Assist in training new personnel or technologists from other centres in learning laboratory tests/procedures and recording methods.
· Participates in safety programs within the clinic.
· Maintaining laboratory QC, inventory, cleanliness, stocking and ordering
· Performs frequent maintenance, monitoring and repair of essential equipment to ensure optimum operation.
· Participates in continuing education through attendance at internal journal clubs and outside meetings and symposia.
Experience / Position Requirements:
· BSc in Biology or related field of Medical Laboratory Technology including a sound understanding of animal or human physiology
· CFAS certification (an asset)
· Recent experience in Andrology/Sperm Handling
· Generation Fertility is a multi-site corporation. There may be times you are requested to participate in assignments at other sites. Pay: $24.00-$28.00 per hour
