Workplace Arrangements
This role will follow a hybrid remote/onsite schedule. Applicants for this role can expect to work on-site from our Ottawa Head Office, on Walkley Road 2-3 days a week for an 8-5 schedule.

About The Role
This position is an ideal opportunity for you to further develop your career within the retail sector. We are looking for someone who enjoys the challenge and fast pace of the grocery industry. You will be responsible for sourcing new items, new suppliers and negotiating costs, discounts and advertising support, while ensuring that we maintain the lowest retail in the market.
What You’ll Be Doing
- Managing a multi-million dollar portfolio of grocery categories, delivering the sales and profits as targeted;
- Sourcing new items, suppliers, negotiating costs, discounts and advertising support;
- Developing, communicating and executing strategies that will deliver a clear competitive advantage in a very aggressive industry;
- Determining our product assortment so that it best addresses our customer needs and our company objectives;
- Developing effective advertising, merchandising and store marketing plans to fully leverage the items within your portfolio to maximize their contribution to our store.
What You’ll Bring
- 3-5 years of grocery buying experience, managing large portfolios;
- Postsecondary education in a related field;
- Strong negotiation skills and an understanding of the finesse and subtle nuances needed in negotiating large accounts;
- Understanding of the importance of analysis and planning; can organize, prioritize and delegate in a challenging multi-tasking environment;
- Communication skills: Strong interpersonal skills, a good listener, good communicator and solid presentation skills;
- Ability to manage, motivate and build a team. Lead by example with a great work ethic, initiative and passion for the job;
- Computer skills: Primarily Excel, Word and a solid Process Management mind-set to pick up on our proprietary I.S. systems;
- Bilingualism (English & French), considered an asset;
- Related JDA AS400 computer systems experience considered, an asset;
- Private Label or Store Brands experience, considered an asset.
- Fresh Meat Category Management Experience, considered an asset.
