Position overview

The Finance team is looking for a driven, dynamic and motivated professional for the role of an Accounting Analyst (Chartered Professional Accountant (CPA) Trainee). This developmental position is designed to provide a CPA candidate with all of the practical experience requirements necessary to satisfy the Chartered Professional Accountants (CPA) Program. To be eligible for this position, you must be enrolled in the CPA Professional Education Program (PEP).
During the 30-month rotational program, you will perform increasingly complex work assignments, reaching competencies expected of an entry-level designated CPA. accountant.

Areas of Development

At Gibson Energy, you will be mentored by an experienced CPA colleague, and supervised by a knowledgeable team of designated accountants, while engaging in the following activities within the Finance group:

Financial Reporting

  • Support the preparation and analysis of annual and quarterly external disclosures including financial statements, MD&A, news releases and other regulatory filings.
  • Provide support for complex technical accounting areas under IFRS and public company regulatory standards.



Management Accounting

  • Provide business-facing accounting support to Infrastructure and Marketing segments.
  • Analyze and / or prepare data and information inputs for operational plans, budgets, and forecasts.
  • Prepare various analysis to assisting management in decision making.



Treasury

  • Support the daily activities of the Treasury team, analyzing working capital needs and sources of financing.
  • Provide support and analysis for the re-financing alternatives and projects.



Education

  • Bachelor’s degree.
  • Successful completion of the academic prerequisites for the CPA program.
  • Successful acceptance into or actively working towards an acceptance into the CPA Professional Education Program (PEP).
  • Please include your CPA transcripts with your application.



Qualifications

  • Ability to work effectively and efficiently in a flexible hybrid office environment.
  • Demonstrate sound judgement, critical thinking, and problem-solving abilities.
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills.
  • Effective organization and time management skills.
  • Results-oriented team player, capable of effectively managing several concurrent projects.
  • Advanced proficiency in MS Office.
  • Experience with enterprise systems such as Dynamics D365, PowerBI and Workiva would be an asset.
  • Must be eligible to work in Canada.



Working Conditions

  • The majority of the work is performed in an office environment at the Calgary Head office.
