Within the Consumer, Registry, and Strategic Services Division of Service Alberta and Red Tape Reduction, the Consumer Services Branch ensures that that the Minister's Mandate, Ministry strategic and business plan goals drive outcomes to ensure consumers are protected and a fair marketplace for businesses through effective legislative and regulatory frameworks.

We are currently seeking enthusiastic, self-motivated, organized individuals with strong customer service skills to join our team.

Role Responsibilities

In both positions you will be responsible for Contributing to the department's business plan to promote a fair marketplace by providing information to the public and business community regarding various types of Provincial Business licenses.

Licensing Officer
Reporting to the Senior Licensing Officer, you will be responsible for:

  • Reviewing, processing new, and renewal applications in accordance with the Consumer Protection Act, Cemeteries Act, Charitable Fund-Raising Act and the regulations associated with these acts.
  • Maintaining license and registration files by ensuring supporting documentation is updated appropriately when processing change requests.
  • Providing information to the public regarding licensing requirements, contract requirements, security instruments and fee amounts.


Business Licensing Administrative Support
Reporting to the Senior Licensing Administration Clerk, you will be responsible for covering these areas of responsibility:

Licensing Clerk/Claims Coordination

  • Reviewing license and registration applications received under the Consumer Protection Act, Cemeteries Act, and Charitable Fund-Raising Act and the regulations associated with these acts. Reviewing applications for quality control, ensuring legislative requirements under the applicable Act and Regulation(s) are complied with, and following up for additional information necessary to issue the licence.
  • Reviewing and maintaining security documentation, cancellation, claims and following up for additional information necessary to manage security instruments.
  • Compiling monthly reports, preparing refunds, preparing letters or email communications to licensees, and handling large mail outs to licensees.


Administrative Support for Statute Administrators

  • Providing administrative support to Statute Administrators in the day to day work associated with administering the Consumer Protection Act, Cemeteries Act, and Charitable Fund-Raising Act and the regulations associated with these acts.
  • Reviewing documentation received under the Consumer Protection Act, Cemeteries Act, and Charitable Fund-Raising Act and the regulations associated with these acts. Reviewing documentation for quality control, ensuring legislative requirements under the applicable Act and Regulation(s) are complied with, and following up for additional information necessary to process the request.
  • Assisting the Management team by researching files containing past correspondence to gather relevant pieces of information to coordinate a response on a specific topic. This involves a general knowledge of the programs in the unit, and knowledge of the relevant issues, Government of Alberta communication templates and tools.

Qualifications

High school diploma and three years of related administrative experience in a customer service setting

Related experience or education may be considered as an equivalency on a one for one basis:
Equivalency: Directly related education or experience considered on the basis of:

  • 1 year of education for 1 year of experience; or
  • 1 year of experience for 1 year of education

Successful Incumbent will be required to:

  • Develop excellent knowledge of licensing requirements and standards, and will be able to interpret and apply this knowledge to provide accurate, efficient licensing services and effective access to licensing information.
  • Excellent knowledge of Microsoft Office with special emphasis on MS Word, Excel and Outlook.
  • Work under increasing independence and with minimal direct supervision.
  • Possess a high degree of analytical and time management skills
  • Prioritize, multi-task and be a proven self-starter.
  • Possess a high level of communication skills in order to appropriately handle inquires and client requests.


Experience in the following area will be considered as asset:

  • Contract or document review
  • Criminal record check or police information check review
  • Consumer Affairs Tracking System (CATS)
  • Corporate Registry System (CORES)
  • Softphone technology like NICEinContact
  • Client relationship management systems like ServiceNow

Notes

These positions are full-time position working 36.25 hours per week, Monday to Friday. One Licensing Officer position is permanent and the other two positions are temporary for up to two years.
