The Opportunity

The Child and Family Programs (CFP), Community Services team within the Ministry of Social Services is hiring two After Hours Placement Workers for the Regina service area. In this role you would provide a range of services designed to provide placement support services for children and youth. The position will be responsible for providing after-hours emergency placement services to children and youth.

In this role you will:

  • Be available to work after hours, weekend and statutory holidays to arrange placements for children and youth needing out-of-home care.
  • Collaborate with Mobile Crisis Services
  • Explore all available options for the placement of children and youth requiring out-of-home care
  • Communicate with providers to secure placements and coordinate placement details
  • Document all completed work and provide updates to the supervisor and placement coordinator

The Ideal Candidate

The successful candidate will have the following knowledge and skills:

  • Understanding of social work theory, practice and applications and human services principles including physical, emotional and cognitive development of children and youth to identify potential placements.
  • Proficiency in conflict resolution and in situations when there are conflicting pressures.
  • Comprehensive understanding of the impact of child abuse on children’s social, physical and emotional development.
  • Awareness of available financial and non-financial resources in the community.
  • Insight into social and economic factors that impact family life and contribute to child abuse and neglect.
  • Understanding and awareness of multi-cultural beliefs and values, with a particular emphasis on First Nations and Metis.
  • Problem solving, negotiation skills and conflict resolution.
  • Accurately enter, format, and access data using computer software programs, (ie. Word, Outlook, Excel, PowerPoint, etc.).

Typically, the knowledge and skills required for this position would be obtained through a diploma, certificate or degree in a Human Service-related field; and experience working in a human service setting.
