The Custody, Supervision and Rehabilitation Services division within the Ministry of Corrections, Policing and Public Safety is seeking a talented individual with proven leadership skills for the position of Director, Operational Services with Community Corrections. This division is responsible for delivering correctional services and programs to adult and youth clients throughout the province.

Community Corrections develops and implements strategies and service delivery to achieve innovative and successful outcomes that address current challenges and create positive impacts for clients and citizens.

The Opportunity

This position leads a team of professionals engaged in providing an operational service. To be successful, you will work closely with the Community Corrections management team as well as with various internal and external stakeholders to develop and operationalize policies and procedures that contribute to achieving the goals of the division and Ministry.

The Director of Operational Services will provide insightful analysis of past practices, research findings, current data and trends to guide in the identification, application and implementation of decisions effective in producing positive service outcomes. The successful candidate will have exceptional interpersonal skills, communicate transparently and fairly, and is flexible in his/her approaches and solutions in order to:

  • Analyze and review, past and current practices and policies;
  • Plan and conduct information-gathering sessions with various stakeholders and agencies;
  • Problem solve and critique processes;
  • Set service criteria and objectives;
  • Make decisions and implement processes and practices;
  • Align policies, procedures and services to objectives and goals;
  • Communicate, mediate, debate and negotiate;
  • Lead a team of professionals; and
  • Operate a unit (budget, employees, and capital).

The Ideal Candidate

The candidate of choice will be an accountable and results-orientated leader who efficiently meets multiple demands and exercises sound judgement in a continuously changing environment. You will have excellent interpersonal, oral and written communication skills to assist in developing and maintaining professional relationships with senior managers and staff. You will possess knowledge and experience in:

  • Quality management strategies and processes;
  • Research analysis (best practices, evaluative techniques, program models);
  • Planning techniques (design, develop and modify service delivery);
  • Project Management;
  • Budget Development;
  • Decision-making;
  • Human services issues; and
  • Human resource management.

Typically, the knowledge and competencies for this position would be acquired through a graduate degree in human services or public/ business administration, along with experience and knowledge in Corrections as well as significant managerial experience. A combination of education and experience will also be considered. The position will be headquartered in Regina.
