Position Summary

Oversees day to day human resources needs in assigned region. Actively promotes good employee relations through communication, conflict resolution, training and promoting Highline philosophies and policies. Works closely with the Corporate HR Manager to ensure consistency in delivery of Highline policies, procedures and HR reporting metrics. Acts as a conduit for information sharing between management and associates; helps resolve concerns supports recruitment and retention goals and workplace safety and well-being.

Duties and Responsibilities

Associate Relations

  • Daily interaction with front line staff and ensures same level of personal service is delivered by Direct Reports.
  • Regular discussions with Corporate HR Manager, to ensure communications, timely reporting and consistency in delivery of front line HR services.
  • Highly receptive to hearing and taking appropriate action on concerns and ideas shared from and between by hourly associates and the management team.
  • Able to effectively convey concerns and promote ideas to all stakeholders.
  • Ensures the effective rollout of human resources programs across the Region.
  • Promotes good associate relations and communication between associates and supervisors by actively promoting a climate of mutual understanding and respect of each individual associate’s dignity and rights.
  • Assists supervisors and managers in managing associates, solving issues and being proactive in promoting discussion and conflict resolution.
  • Leads investigations into escalated or serious matters in coordination with the safety team. Prepares detailed and factual findings to present to the Corporate Human Resources Manager per policy.
  • Oversees findings of inspections, creates and delivers corrective actions and education to the TFWs.
  • Oversees various contract renewals, keeping up to date information, housing, transportation, human resources and immigration portions of the Temporary Foreign Work Program in the Region and assists with other HR related functions as assigned.
  • Ensures a highly functional Associate Representative Committee (ARC) exists in assigned region, productive meetings are held regularly and accurate minutes are taken and communicated to all.
  • Works closely with the HR team or Committee to organize associate events (picnics, celebrations, etc)

Safety, Wellness & Investigations

  • Proactively interacts and communicates with the Safety team in support of the promotion of associate wellness and safety.
  • Ensures non-occupational illness or injury accommodation requests are communicated accurately and without delay to the Corporate Human Resources Manager, Corporate Safety Manager and/or Corporate Disability & Claims Manager.
  • Works to ensure that no associate is subjected to discriminatory action by any other associate or any supervisor or manager. With the assistance of the safety department, investigates and mediates workplace disputes, including proper investigation of all complaints. Detailed and fact based documentation and recommendations for resolution are promptly provided to the Corporate Human Resources Manager.
  • Holds self and others to Safety Policies, including use of proper Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) and other safety equipment.
  • Reports all unsafe conditions, incidents, injuries or near misses immediately to a member of the Safety team.
  • Cooperates in the Early & Safe Return to Work Program if an injury / medical illness requires accommodation.

Talent Acquisition & Attrition Management

  • Helps ensure adequate staffing for the assigned region by ensuring accurate and up-to-date records of all staffing changes and statistics are maintained at all times.
  • Communicates with the Talent Acquisition team and Farm Managers any staffing changes, exits, required job postings and general proactive recruitment needs.
  • Participates in the hiring process for all hourly positions, and when requested for salary positions, including liaisons with the Talent Acquisition team and participating in the recruiting processes.
  • Attends the introductory portion of new associate orientation to greet new workers.
  • Participates in various job fairs as a positive brand ambassador
  • Conducts Exit Interviews, then analyses and reports out facts and trends, recommending proactive solutions to improve turnover

Time & Attendance & Payroll Communication

  • Investigates and manages Associate attendance related concerns by requesting documentation from the Solutions teams and delivering to the Supervisors/Managers for joint issuance.
  • Supports accuracy of the time and attendance system, including management of direct report time cards.
  • Approves requests for time off from direct reports in accordance with department requirements and Company Policy and supports consistent management and tracking of all time off per policy.
  • Aids in accurate compensation and benefits for all Associates by ensuring change information is gathered by Advocates and shared immediately with the correct administrator (Payroll, Benefits or HRIS).

Performance Management

  • Manage the performance of, and conducts performance appraisals on direct reports Manage the delivery of the performance management program to Associates per protocol and timelines
  • Attend DOR meetings and other meetings as required to glean information on farm and individual performance and seek and provide guidance as needed

Training

  • Through interaction with the associates and supervisory staff, helps to identify, recommend and conduct training sessions as required.
  • Takes a hands-on approach to teaching and coaching others, embraces on-the-spot learning moments to continuously improve performance and enhance development

Report Management

  • Delivers routine daily/weekly/monthly reporting and responds to basic to intermediate ad hoc data requests. This includes but is not limited to attendance reports, performance reviews, training requirements, etc.
  • Prepares reports, graphs, charts and statistics in support of human resources operations.

Knowledge, Experience & Qualifications:

  • Professional experiences or equivalent combined education, designation and work experience will be considered;
  • Successful completion of post-secondary degree or diploma with a major in Business Administration or Human Resources.
  • Possesses a valid HR designation, or is able to obtain in short order.
  • Ten (10) years direct related human resources experience required.
  • Five (5) years managing multiple HR professionals required.
  • Advanced training and skills in Microsoft Office, and an HRIS systems is required

Professional Knowledge & Skills:

  • Must be knowledgeable of employment, human rights, and health and safety legislation
  • Proven ability to demonstrate close attention to detail

  • Ability to travel between our Highline Mushrooms West locations which include British Columbia and Alberta

Working Conditions:

  • Weekend and/or evening and some holiday work will be required from time to time, along with a willingness to work a flexible schedule and to be on-call as needed.
  • Adaptable to working in an office and farm environment intermittently and ability to travel between farm locations as required in the execution of all duties.
