Job Description:

General Accountabilities:

  • Provide advice, guidance and direction to Human Resources and Line Management on the administration and interpretation of Hydro One’s collective agreements.

  • Participate in the development, recommendation, review and update of labour relations strategies, policies, and programs.

  • Represent and support management in internal and external grievances proceedings such as mediations, arbitrations, Human Rights Tribunals, and Labour Board processes.

  • Work with legal counsel, Human Resources, and Lines of Business to prepare and finalize arbitrations briefs.

  • Support and participate in management bargaining committee for collective agreement renewal negotiations with Hydro One's unions and/or conduct environmental scanning and research.

  • Contribute to the effective maintenance of Hydro One’s Collective Agreements on the basis of continuing administration and advice, as well as presenting labour relation training to managers and supervisors, inclusive of interpretive guidance, practices, arbitration awards, recent settlements, changes in legislation etc.

  • Maintain knowledge of Employment and Labour legislation as well as collective baragaining trends and arbitration outcomes across various sectors and industries.

  • Perform activities relative to the Labour Relations Act and other relevant legislation.

  • Prepare and present labour relation training material to various internal clients.


Selection Criteria:

Education:

  • Masters of Industrial Relations (MIR or MIRHR), JD/LLB, or equivalent education and experience.

  • Requires a demonstrated knowledge of Employment Standards Act, 2000, Labour Relations Act, 1995, and Human Rights Code.

  • Knowledge of English to effectively communicate with various stakeholders including employees, supervisors/managers, union representatives, arbitators.

Experience:

  • Demonstrated ability to successfully influence and advise various levels of supervisors and management, as well as external contacts.

  • Experience advising managers on grievances, negotiating with union representatives, and presenting arguments on on behalf of management.

  • Experience participating in external disputes and working through Labour Board processes.

  • Experience with collective bargaining would be an asset.

  • A period of 2-5 years is considered necessary to gain this experience.
