Work Arrangements: This regular, part-time (28 hours per week) position is available starting March 18, 2024. The days and hours of work will be determined by mutual agreement. A hybrid work arrangement may be available following the successful compeletion of the probationary period.

What JIBC Offers:

Position Summary


The Data Analyst provides critical support to ensure that enterprise data is fit to meet users’ needs and stakeholders gain access to trustworthy information to support timely decision-making. In this role, the Data Analyst will create institutional reports, dashboards, and submissions to government data repositories that support internal decision-making and meet external reporting requirements. They are responsible for a robust data quality program that ensures data integrity and compliance with JIBC and government data governance standards, helping to move the Institute towards trusted data. The Data Analyst will also support strategic and operational planning processes for the organization to ensure outcomes are measured and staff have access to current data and timely service. This role contributes to the overall success of the Institutional Research team, and ensures that all programs, processes and data services contribute to JIBC’s strategic direction and the divisional goals.


Primary Responsibilities


Data Governance

  • Contribute to building data governance and improving data by ensuring that the data in enterprise systems is of high quality and can be used to inform business decisions.
  • Devise and implement streamlined processes, metrics, and reports to audit, monitor, and improve data quality — from data creation to analytics — across enterprise systems.
  • Investigate intricate data-related challenges, identify the requirements to fix root causes, and collaborate with data stewards and Technology Services to develop preventive measures and implement solutions.
  • Develop datamarts, submissions to government data repositories, and survey cohorts for institutional, provincial, and national surveys to ensure the government and post-secondary sector has quality data to inform plans and measure outcomes.
  • Program queries and scripts to extract, transform and load data according to data model specifications, automate data preparation, and compute new variables. Lead testing and data validation.
  • Support the development of data definitions across enterprise systems.
  • Provide data literacy training to staff and faculty.
  • Contribute to assessing the overall health and progress of the data governance program.
  • Participate in government and the post-secondary sector collaboration activities on data governance and reporting standards.

Reporting and Analytics

  • Serve as a central provider of timely and accurate information to support planning and decision-making.
  • Implement data analytics effectively within assigned areas.
  • Prepare reports for governmental bodies and/or other public accountability reports.
  • Respond to internal and external information requests, determining requirements and developing reports and dashboards that use descriptive statistics to identify trends and surface insights that support planning and decision-making.
  • Monitor the effectiveness of reports and dashboards and make modifications to improve performance.
    Organizational

Organizational Support

  • Support institutional strategic and operational planning processes. Monitor, track, and report on annual plans and strategic initiatives.
  • Compile key performance indicator (KPI) reports for the Board and management.
  • Ensure smooth divisional operations by organizing and updating data, managing user accounts, handling divisional service requests, and generating insightful divisional reports.
  • Provide valuable support to data stewards and governing bodies in fulfilling their responsibilities for data governance.
  • Monitor trends and advancements to maintain personal expertise in analytics and data governance and makes recommendations for changes applicable to JIBC.

Surveys

  • Orchestrate the seamless deployment of course evaluations and other institutional surveys and the dissemination of results in compliance with ethical guidelines.
  • Conduct analyses and generate insightful reports.

Qualifications & Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s degree in an analytical field of study such as data science, information science, computer science, social sciences, or mathematics.
  • Three years of experience in data analytics or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Proficient in designing and executing reporting, analysis, and data visualizations using diverse applications such as Tableau, Power BI, SPSS, Excel, and SQL Server Reporting Services.
  • Fluent in programming languages to extract and manage data (e.g., SQL, Python, R).
  • Knowledge of data governance principles and best practices. Experience working on information managemnet or data governance projects is preferred.
  • Knowledge of relational and dimensional databases, with an understanding of the flow of data throughout administrative systems.
  • Exceptional analytical and problem-solving abilities with meticulous attention to detail.
  • Excellent written, oral, and visual communication skills. Ability to explain complex information clearly and concisely to technical and non-technical audiences.
  • Ability to manage multiple simultaneous assignments and meet negotiated deadlines.
  • Strong organizational skills.
  • High degree of ethics and sound judgment to manage sensitive, confidential, or contentious information.
  • Superior collaboration skills, with a strong service orientation.
  • Models respectful and inclusive workplace behaviours, and demonstrates a commitment to meaningful outcomes in diversity, equity, and Indigenization.
  • Familiarity with the post-secondary sector and experience with academic and administrative processes and systems is an asset.
