As a valued member of our team, reporting directly to the Interparliamentary Relations Coordinator, you will collaborate closely with a dynamic group of Legislative Ushers.

The term of this assignment is from June 2024 to August 2025. This role is 100% on-site.

What You’ll Do

You’ll act with integrity to:

  • Demonstrate a high degree of professionalism in a non-partisan support role.
  • Exercise tact and diplomacy when dealing with MPPs, visitors and staff in a politically sensitive environment.

You’ll support our collaboration as you:

  • Ensure rules of conduct and protocols are observed when parliamentary proceedings are in session.
  • Maintain confidentiality of proceedings.
  • Assist with the set-up of the Legislative Chamber, monitor access to the galleries, seat visitors, provide coat check services, and assist with committee proceedings.
  • Provide exceptional customer service at all times.

How You Qualify

You demonstrate excellence through your:

  • Keen understanding and interest in Ontario’s parliamentary system.
  • Flexibility, teamwork and demonstrated customer service and interpersonal skills.
  • Proficiency in English, conversational French would be considered an asset.
  • Enrollment in a post-secondary institution in the GTA for the 2024/2025 academic year.
  • Focus and ability to remain at various assigned posts for prolonged periods of time.
  • Adaptability and ability to respond to changing work pace within a high-profile environment.

Hours of Work: This role involves working when the House is in session. A minimum commitment to work 3 shifts per week from Monday to Thursday is required, including at least one (1) morning shift and one (1) afternoon shift.

Regular hours of work when Parliament is in session*:

AM shift PM shift Night shift*

Monday: 7:30 a.m. - 12:00 noon 12:30 p.m. - 6:00 p.m. 5:45 p.m. – 12:00 a.m.

Tuesday: 7:30 a.m. - 12:00 noon 2:30 p.m. – 7:30 p.m. 7:15 p.m. – 12:00 a.m.

Wednesday: 7:30 a.m. - 12:00 noon 12:30 p.m. – 7:30 p.m. 7:15 p.m. – 12:00 a.m.

Thursday: 7:30 a.m. - 12:00 noon 12:30 p.m. - 7:00 p.m. 6:45 p.m. – 12:00 a.m.

  • Some duties will require additional hours and night sittings, and changes may be made on short notice.

Note: A Police Vulnerable Sector Check (PVSC) will be required as a condition of employment for this position. Selected candidates will be required to provide a current PVSC. All associated costs will be the responsibility of the candidate.
