The Human Resources Assistant provides administrative support to the People & Culture team including activities related to recruitment, student & volunteer management, and human resources information management.


DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Provide Administrative support, not limited to HR projects and initiatives.
  • Completes phone screenings, reference checks as required during the recruitment process.
  • Assist with the preparation of employment offers, verification letters, and onboarding process.
  • Creates new employee profiles in the HR solution ADP Workforce Now (WFN).
  • Involvement with policy implementation in WFN.
  • Maintain electronic employee, student, and volunteer files.
  • Assist in the development of procedures.
  • Participation in creating Employee Practices Manual and reports in WFN.
  • Maintaining electronic filing system and file archiving projects.
  • Coordinate employee training and development programs.

QUALIFICATIONS:

Education:

  • Diploma or degree in Human Resources or 2-3 years relevant work experience or equivalent combination of education and experience sufficient to perform the job duties.
  • Certified Human Resources Professional (CHRP) designation or in process.

Experience:

  • 1-2 years’ experience using a Human Resources Information System and Learning platforms.
  • Previous working experience in a fast-paced environment which requires multi-tasking and flexibility.
  • Experience with general administrative duties.
  • Knowledge of HR practices, policies and standards and general understanding of HR legislation.
  • An anti-racism/anti-oppression philosophy of service provision.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • Strong computer skills: MS Word, Excel, and Outlook.
  • Strong organizational skills.
  • Effective time management and adaptability skills.
  • Strong communication skills both written and verbal.
  • A self-starter, able to thrive working both independently and within a team.
  • Awareness of sensitivity to diversity issues and confidentiality.
  • Flexibility and willingness to carry out tasks as needed.

ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS:

  • Satisfactory clearance under the Police Reference Check Program.
  • Must be legally eligible to work in Canada
