Overview:

We are seeking a highly organized and detail-oriented Legal Assistant to join our team. The Legal Assistant will provide administrative support in the areas of Family Law and Estate Planning & Administration, experience or interest in Real Estate considered an asset.

This is a full-time position based in our office with flexibility for partial remote work/work from home as needed.

Your key responsibilities and duties will include:

- Assist in drafting and proofing various documents, such as routine court documents and correspondence

- Maintain and organize legal files and documents

- Manage calendars and emails, as well as schedule appointments, meetings, and court hearings for lawyer

- Liase with lawyers, other assistants, clients and other third-parties to gather necessary information, provide status updates, and manage various aspects of files

- Assist in managing projects and deadlines

- Handle incoming calls, emails, and other communications with professionalism and confidentiality

- Perform general clerical duties, including photocopying, scanning, and maintaining files

- Conduct legal research and gather relevant information for cases

The ideal candidate will possess:

- Previous experience as a Legal Assistant or similar role preferred (a minimum of 1 year)

- Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint)

- Strong organizational skills and attention to detail, with the ability to prioritize tasks effectively to meet deadlines

- Strong problem solving skills

- Excellent written and verbal communication skills

- Professional communication etiquette (phone, email, and in-person)

- Knowledge of legal drafting and research techniques

- Ability to work independently and as part of a team

- Strong attention to detail and accuracy

Qualifications and Requirments

  • Graduate of accredited Legal Assistant program and/or a minimum 1-3 years of experience;
  • Experience in family law and estate law is an asset;
  • Comprehensive knowledge of legal terminology;
  • Highly organized;
  • Exceptional verbal and written communication skills;
  • Ability to follow instructions and meet strict deadlines;
  • Display a great attention to detail;
  • Capable of prioritizing a high volume of tasks; and
  • Familiarity with Clio (practice management software) is an asset.

Directly related education or experience considered on the basis of:

  • 1 year of education for 1 year of experience
  • 1 year of experience for 1 year of education

Job Types: Full-time, Permanent

Pay: $40,000.00-$55,000.00 per year
