McMaster University operates the McMaster Nuclear Reactor (MNR) as part of its educational and research programs. Commercial work is carried out to support these programs.




Job Summary:

Serves as Tour Guide for the McMaster Nuclear Reactor. Follows established script when conducting tours.



Accountabilities:

  • Deliver comprehensive tours to a variety of individuals. Tailor content of tour to the age and experience level of the tour participants.
  • Sign-in guests, check ID and dress code in accordance with the published regulations. Escalate non-conformances to Supervisor.
  • Follow and promote all safety rules and regulations associated with entry and exit.
  • Answer routine inquiries and provide information regarding McMaster Nuclear Reactor and the nuclear area. Explains displays, reviews infographics on tour route.
  • Provide directed support for special tour events.



Qualifications:

Education: Must be in second year of related Science or Engineering course minimum, post graduate and doctoral students preferred.

Experience: Previous work or academic experience in nuclear science. Experience or interest in science communication.



Assets:

State the skills and/or knowledge that a successful candidate would possess.

Knowledge of radiation and radiation interactions, reactor physics, and/or the nuclear industry.

Critical thinking and risk assessment skills.

Clear and effective verbal communication skills

Nuclear Energy Worker (NEW) designation and security clearance will be required.
