What can I expect to do in this role?
In this role, you will:
- assist with the monitoring and performance assessment of highway construction and maintenance contractors and consultants
- complete field investigations, site surveys, contract inspections, and office administration tasks
- review extra work, contract drawings, documents and claims
- complete seasonal work assignments within the various regional and provincial offices
- provide technical advice and training to staff
How do I qualify?
Mandatory
- The position requires the successful candidate to have a valid class G driver's licence or equivalent. The offer of employment is conditional upon the successful candidate providing proof that they have a valid driver's licence upon being hired.
Technical and Legislative Knowledge:
- you have knowledge and experience in construction and/or maintenance practices including inspection and road patrolling and related duties
- you have knowledge and experience of highway maintenance and/or construction standards and specifications
- you have knowledge of related policies, acts and regulations to interpret and assess legislative impacts on contract related issues
Essential Skills:
- you have communication and interpersonal skills
- you have analytical, negotiation and problem solving skills
- you have mathematical skills to assist with the assessment of contract related issues
- you have organizational and planning skills to effectively carry out assigned inspection and monitoring duties
- you have the ability to interpret contract drawings and documents
- you have the ability to monitor contractor's operations, assess contractors and consultants work for compliance
- you are proficient in using computer software and applications to complete reports and spreadsheets
