The L.I.F.E. Services Support Worker supports individuals with diverse abilities to achieve personal growth, community inclusion, meaningful employment, and lasting friendships. Using a person-centred approach, the support worker collaborates with individuals to identify their goals, develop personalized support plans, and provide one-on-one and group-based assistance. The role fosters confidence, independence, and natural support networks while respecting cultural safety and diversity.

Schedule: Sunday Wednesday, 7.25 hours per day. 29 hours per week

Wage: $30.82/hr

Location: Cranbrook, BC Status: Permanent

Key Duties & Responsibilities

  • Person-Centered Support
    • Collaborate with individuals to develop personalized goals and action plans in learning, inclusion, friendship, and employment.
    • Provide direct and indirect (behind-the-scenes planning, research, and support) services as needed.
    • Adjust support hours, location, and type of support based on the individual’s changing needs and personal growth.
  • Skill Development & Community Inclusion
    • Assist individuals in developing skills related to employment, community participation, and social engagement.
    • Facilitate participation in local activities, community events, and employment opportunities.
    • Encourage and support individuals to engage in lifelong learning experiences, both formal and informal.
  • Relationship Building
    • Foster opportunities for individuals to build meaningful relationships and friendships within their community.
    • Work to strengthen the individual’s natural support network (family, friends, mentors) to reduce reliance on paid support.
  • Monitoring & Evaluation
    • Conduct regular check-ins with individuals to ensure the service remains relevant, effective, and aligned with their goals.
    • Support the continuous improvement of the L.I.F.E. Service by documenting feedback and participating in service evaluations.
  • Cultural Sensitivity & Safety
    • Focus on delivering support tailored to the individual’s unique cultural background and personal preferences. This involves recognizing and honouring their cultural heritage, community affiliations, and specific values in your interactions and service delivery.
  • Administrative Duties
    • Maintain accurate records of individual progress, plans, and evaluations.
    • Participate in training, team meetings, and service improvement initiatives.

Requirements

  • Education & Experience:
    • Diploma or certificate in Community Support Work, Human Service Worker, Social Services, or related field (or equivalent experience).
    • Experience supporting individuals in community inclusion, employment, or social development programs.
  • Skills & Competencies:
    • Strong interpersonal and communication skills to foster relationships with individuals, families, and community partners.
    • Ability to work independently while being responsive to the evolving needs of the supported individuals.
    • Knowledge of the principles of person-centered thinking.
  • Other Requirements:
    • BC Class 5 license and reliable transportation
    • Ability to pass a criminal record check for working with vulnerable populations.
