Position Title: Environmental Services Aide – Housekeeping Services

Position Status: Summer Relief – Part Time –Secondary School and Post-Secondary

Key Responsibilities:

  • Carries out daily, weekly, monthly and scheduled long-term cleaning functions according to

established standards

  • Operates, cleans and cares for all small/large housekeeping equipment (burnisher, auto

scrubbers, carpet extractor, air fresheners, chemical dispensing equipment etc.

  • Maintains utility closets and replenishes supplies and cleaning products with appropriate

WHMIS labels according to established standards

  • Collects and prepares for pickup of all hazardous and non-hazardous waste
  • Collects and properly disposes of refuse
  • Maintains and cleans all applicable aspects of patient rooms washrooms, clinics, treatment

rooms (cubicle curtains, spray-buffing floors)

  • Cleans all non-patient areas (lounges, nurses’ stations etc.) according to established standards

and procedures

  • Maintains floors and carpets according to established methods for project cleaning including

vacuuming and shampooing of carpets, stripping and refinishing floors

  • Responds to emergency situations such as spills and floods etc.
  • Delivers clean linen to the units.
  • Moves equipment/furniture and sets up rooms for activities/functions
  • Cleans walls/vents/windows in designated areas according to schedule
  • Transports clean and dirty linen to and from designated areas in a safe and efficient manner
  • Required to adhere to all health and safety policies, procedures and provisions set up by

management.

  • Communicates with supervisors to provide performance feedback
  • Responsible for recognizing unsafe work practices and other potential hazards in the work

area, and for reporting these situations to their supervisors.

  • Other duties as assigned

Essential Qualifications:

  • Ability to read, write, speak and follow written and verbal instructions in English
  • Ability to exercise good judgement
  • Minimum Grade 10 Completion - Secondary School Diploma or equivalent preferred
  • Ability to perform a variety of physical duties including lifting, twisting, bending, walking

and standing for long periods of time and carrying various items and weights up to 40 lbs.

  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Established initiative and ability to work independently or as a team in a flexible manner.
  • Must demonstrate the ability to provide excellent customer service.
  • Must demonstrate an ability to maintain a co-operative working relationship with other

members of the health care team.

  • Work within established deadlines and in a fast-paced environment
  • Demonstrated ability to attend work on a regular basis.
  • Must be able to work shifts, weekdays, weekends, holidays.

Must be able to work all shifts as required which may include weekends, statutory holidays, day

and evening shifts. This position is a temporary part time for May – September 2024.

A satisfactory police Criminal Records and Judicial Matters check will be required as a condition
of hire

Immunization Requirements

Provide documentation that you have received at least two (2) doses of the COVID-19 vaccine
and in accepting employment are consenting to follow any future Public Health
recommendations, policies of either NGH or NHNH in accordance with the Long-Term Care Act,
and/or other policies and processes related to the management of COVID-19 in the workplace.

Provide vaccination records or proof of immunity in accordance with the Ontario Hospitals Act.
