As autonomous practitioners, Registered Midwives in the NWT are the most responsible provider for a case load of clients and work collaboratively with other members of the healthcare team. The Registered Midwife works in association with interdisciplinary primary health teams in their region and within an integrated territorial perinatal health team. Registered Midwives work with a small team of midwives to provide continuity of care to clients and ensure coordinated delivery of care within the network of community, regional, and territorial health services.
Northwest Territories’ midwives are provided with one of the highest salaries in Canada, including an incredible compensation and recruitment package. Midwives in the NWT work flexible hours to meet the needs of Midwifery clients. Along with flexible schedules midwives are eligible for on-call pay and overtime pay. The annual salary range for a full-time midwife in the NWT ranges from $118,970 to $146,668, with potential additional gross earnings (before overtime and on-call pay) of between approximately $23,700 and $31,100 within the first year of employment, based on northern living allowance, recruitment bonus, 1-year retention bonus, and other paid benefits.
Additional benefits include relocation assistance, professional fees reimbursements, northern tax benefits (up to $11/day in deductions after 6-months of residency), outstanding leave benefits, a defined benefit pension plan, health and dental plans, maternity and parental leave, professional development opportunities, education support, and an optional deferred salary leave plan.
These positions typically require a bachelor’s degree in Midwifery (Health Sciences) or assessed through a Prior Learning and Experience Assessment (PLEA) program within a Canadian province, with a minimum of two (2) years’ experience in delivering midwifery care as a primary care provider.
We are also accepting locum and casual applicants. Submit your resume to hlthss_recruitment@gov.nt.ca for short-term work opportunities.
