Who are you?
A highly motivated Intermediate Geologist with a minimum 8 years of industry experience, looking to join our dynamic exploration and development team with a focus on the company’s Montney and Cardium unconventional assets in Alberta. This position will be responsible for all activities related to mapping, unconventional horizontal development drilling, location de-risking, and generating new prospects within specified project areas.
In addition, the Intermediate Geologist will work cooperatively with our hands-on multi-disciplinary teams in Exploration, Engineering, Drilling and Land in order to foster an upbeat and driven work environment.

Intermediate Geologist Position
  • Reporting to the Exploration Manager the Intermediate Geologist works closely and collaboratively with the Company Geophysicist, Engineers, Drillers and Land personnel to optimize field wide development planning and execution of drilling and completion operations.
  • Work is largely focused on geological mapping for prospect development and drill location optimization. Successful candidate must have a sound understanding of geophysics and seismic methods, horizontal drilling and frac technology, geo-mechanics, petro-physics, and regional hydrodynamics.
  • The role includes significant operations responsibilities for vertical, directional and horizontal drilling within the company portfolio. At the discretion of the Exploration Manager this includes, but is not limited to, well prognoses, directional planning, geological wellsite operations, geo-steering, well logging, frac placement and blanking recommendations.
  • Competitor analysis and awareness of all offsetting activity, and monitoring of industry technological advancements. In coordination with the multi-disciplinary teams, the Intermediate Geologist is required to monitor and evaluate land sale postings, competitor divesture and acquisitions, potential mineral land swap opportunities, joint venture opportunities, farm-outs and pooling.
  • Volumetric and petro-physical mapping of original oil in place, original gas in place, recoverable oil in place, production forecasting and continued collaboration with company engineers and third party reserve evaluators for corporate reserves.
Education, Experience and Skills
  • University Bachelor’s Degree (or higher) in Geology from a recognized University
  • Professional Geologist designation with Active APEGA Membership or MIT Designation
  • 8 years of relevant oil and gas industry geology experience in the WCSB
  • A proven prospect generator with Montney and Cardium formation experience
  • Strong technical/computer skills with demonstrated experience in GeoScout, Accumap, Geographix Star Steer and other common petroleum industry software
  • Operations experience in planning, drilling and geo-steering horizontal wells is essential
  • Highly motivated, self-starting individual who works effectively in a team environment
  • Provide geological support for other areas within the Company as needed including acquisitions and divestitures.
  • Excellent communication and presentation skills
