Job Description & Location:
Toronto-Based Facilities Manager, overseeing capital upgrades, (emergency) repairs, and maintenance at two Toronto facilities - aka: Ships - and coming New York City based Ship opening in May 2024. Second New York Ship launching early 2025.
Role Overview:
Othership is seeking an intensely detailed, highly accountable, and experienced Facilities Manager to ensure Ships are operating at maximum efficiency with zero-to-minimal downtime. Candidates with experience in the multi-location fitness facilities world will have an edge on the larger applicant field. You are proactive and love getting into the details. From paint touchups and changing lightbulbs to quarterbacking larger capital upgrades, you are the metaphorical “glue” that keeps everything Ship shape. Ideal candidates, have a mechanical or electrical engineering degree but it’s not mandatory. Because Othership is a growing company there is serious growth potential for this role too, with a chance to lead and manage others over time. The Facilities Manager brings a collaborative, service-oriented mindset when it comes to supporting not just company Leadership, but also when working with the operating teams at the Ship level.
Key Responsibilities:
LEADERSHIP COLLABORATION
- In frequent proactive communication with the Director of Construction, Founders, and Ship Captains (ie: Ship General Managers) - leading weekly maintenance meetings
- Good steward of relationships with Landlord contacts and outside vendors
- Work closely with the Director of Construction on New Ship Openings to get spaces up and operating and:
- Monitor inventory and spend for maintenance items
- Manage repair and maintenance budget
- Schedule and monitor deep cleanings
- Represent the brand and live the core values (Inspire Awe, Building Belonging and Cellular Commitment)
- Assist with recruiting, hiring, training, and managing a team as we grow
FACILITIES OVERSIGHT MANTENANCE
- Responsible for Toronto and US locations - Travel up to 30%-40% of the time when needed
- Schedule and perform routine ship visits to ensure ships are up to standards and journeyers expectations are met
- Become Single Point Of Contact (SPOC) and subject matter expert for sauna and tub maintenance needs
- Set/coordinate routine and one-off maintenance of ship systems - mechanical, electrical, lockers, washer/dryer, etc.
- Self-perform minor maintenance / repairs as able - ex. paint touchups
- Complete special projects as assigned (pre-opening and after-close work may be required)
- Manage all routine and emergency repairs
Candidate attributes:
- Highly proactive, accountable, and detail oriented
- Represent the brand and lives it’s core values every day
- Strong ability to predict / anticipate what needs to be done and very self-motivated
- Ability to stand, crawl, walk, push, pull, and lift objects weighing up to 40 pounds
- Must have a passport (work visa for cross border work would be arranged)
- A great communicator, good with people
- Ideal but not necessary
- Has experience in gym / spa environment facilities management
- Has building experience and tools for small projects (such as building the cold plunge step up benches)

Maintenance
- LED light repair
- Bench boards re-fastened in sauna
- Outside sitting benches adjusted to eliminate squeaks
- Paint scratches on bathroom doors touched up
- Replace signage that had fallen off
- Moved light fixture by a couple of inches
- Removed a stain on sauna bench
- Removed blockage in drain
Equipment Troubleshoots
- Diagnostics re: industrial essential oil diffuser
- Sauna heaters tripping
Small projects
- Installed LED lights under cold plunge benches
- Rearranged and installed some hanging plants
- Built a wood box for a shelf to sit higher
- Re-built the cold plunge step-up benches
- Installed a table and mirror in accessible washroom
Job Type: Full-time
Pay: $90,000.00 per year
