Overview:

Pembina Pipeline Corporation is currently recruiting for an Intern, GIS for an 8th month term starting May 6, 2024. Reporting to the Supervisor, GIS, the successful candidate will be an integral part of the Asset Information Management group within the Technical Services Unit.

On behalf of Pembina’s Business Units, TSU manages a comprehensive integrity management program, which includes Facility Integrity, Pipeline Integrity, Geotechnical, Corrosion Control, Asset Management, Product Quality and Measurement, Geographical Information System, Integrity Project Execution, and Automation Services. TSU provides leading technical expertise that optimizes performance and minimizes operational and project risk.

Along with providing GIS support to the entire corporation, additional key roles of the GIS team are maintaining the corporate pipeline database and supporting the Asset Integrity group with mapping and data management.


Responsibilities may include but not limited to:

  • Support Pembina’s safety culture of "Zero by Choice" and the “Life Saving Rules”. To read more about our Life Saving Rules, visit pembina.com/safety;
  • Create presentation quality maps to support business needs;
  • Conduct GIS processing and data integration into the PODS and Pipeline Integrity databases utilizing specialized vendor applications and/or manual methods;
  • Routinely interact with various internal and external stakeholders to ensure necessary information, drawings, and data sets are integrated with the GIS and PODS database;
  • Utilize historical data sources to conduct data investigation, extraction, and loading;
  • Perform quality assurance on previously loaded data; and
  • Participate and support an equitable, diverse, and inclusive workplace.

Qualifications:

  • Currently enrolled in post-secondary Bachelors of GIS (course work completed);
  • Strong background in computer use and data entry/processing;
  • Understanding of various data formats;
  • High standard for quality control and attention to detail;
  • Familiarity with GIS concepts;
  • Strong organizational skills, self-starter, and good communicator in a team environment;
  • Previous experience with pipelines in the Oil and Gas industry considered a strong asset;
  • Working knowledge of GIS software (Esri ArcMap, ArcGIS Pro);
  • Proficient in Microsoft Excel;
  • Database skills (Microsoft Access and/or SQL) an asset; and
  • Programming background (Excel macros utilizing VBA, python) an asset.


The successful candidate must be legally able to work in the country of the position. Final candidate will be required to undergo Pre-Employment Background Checks including a Criminal Record Check.
