Please note that the hours of work are approximate and are schedules are subject to change depending on operational needs. Any changes made to the hours of work will be done in accordance with the terms of the Health Centre policies.

Approximate # of Hours per week: 37.5

Type of Shifts: The schedule may include rotating shifts, weekends, and holidays, depending on the hospital's operational requirements.

WHAT YOU’LL DO:

As a Physician Assistant (PA) in Surgical Services, you will play a crucial role in the collaborative healthcare team of physicians, nurses, and other allied health professionals participating in the day-to-day management of Acute Care Surgery patients. The position will contribute to surgical consults and pre- and post-procedural care, rounding and unit-based quality and safety practices. This role may also perform surgical first assist duties as needed. This position reports to the Director of Surgical Services and to the Chief of Surgery/Heads of Division for medical performance, works under the direction of the supervising Surgeon, and is supported by medical directives and policies.

WHAT YOU’LL BRING:

• Graduation from an Accredited Physician Assistant program.
• Registration with the Canadian Association of Physician’s Assistants.
• Certified by the National Commission on Certification of Physician Assistants (NCCPA) or Physician Assistant Certification Council of Canada (PACCC) or eligible to be certified by PACCC.
• Must meet the competencies outline by the province in the Defining the Physician Assistant Role in Ontario (http://www.healthforceontario.ca/UserFiles/file/AHP/Inside/PA-role-april-2007-en.pdf).
• Minimum 2 years of PA experience an asset.
• Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) and Basic Life Support (BLS) certifications.

• Ability to work in a busy clinical environment and procedural space.
• Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to interact effectively with patients and families, as well as members of the multidisciplinary team.
• Capacity to assist with patient care in a manner that emphasizes quality and safety.
• Respect for patient confidentiality.
• Ability to recognize clinical scenarios that require immediate attention from the staff physician and other team members.
• Perform other cross-functional responsibilities as requested.
• Clinical duties will be during weekday shifts, may involve evening and weekends
