Reporting to the GIS Manager, the GIS Technician is required to contribute and innovate on a variety of dynamic projects and maintenance programs that require support and development. The GIS Technician facilitates the compilation, organization, and interpretation of geographically referenced data sets through spatial analysis, as-built interpretation, processing and inputting digital spatial and/or attribute data in order to produce a variety of data sets, digital files, and reports.
General Duties
● Works on projects assigned by a Project Coordinator.
● Collaborates with Management, Project Coordinators, and peers to address project needs.
● Support the development of new projects and programs by preparing, updating, manipulating, and analyzing spatial data, attribute data, and as-built drawings.
● Uses different Esri software, FME, Smartsheet, etc. to complete assigned tasks.
● Evaluates information gathered from source data, and reconciles conflicts.
● Conducts quality assurance and quality control tasks on digital products and deliverables to ensure data integrity and technical standards are met.
● Applies personal time management for maintaining workloads and reporting while meeting set deadlines.
● Provides Project Coordinators with project task status on a regular basis, and informs them of any issues (i.e., IT issues, potential missed deadlines, etc.) as they arise.
● Estimates time requirements for all workloads, issues, and development items before and during the project life cycle.
● Enters accurate timecards at the end of every day for each project worked on as directed by the Project Coordinator.
● Troubleshoots data issues as directed by the Project Coordinator.
Qualifications
● GIS post-grad certification or equivalent education
● 0-2 years’ experience in a GIS related role/field
● 0-2 years’ experience in the utility industry preferred
● Experience with the ArcGIS Suite of Products is required, including but not limited to ArcGIS Desktop, ArcGIS Pro, ArcGIS Online, etc.
● Experience with GIS file formats such as Shapefiles, CSV, CAD and File GDB
● SQL server for querying and manipulating data is an asset
● Experience with FME is an asset
● Experience with Network-based GIS (ArcFM, UNM) is considered an asset
● Knowledge of Microsoft Word and Excel, or Google Suite of products such as Docs and Sheets
● Exceptional time management
● Must have good attention to detail and demonstrate strong analytical, and problem solving skills
● Ability to effectively work virtually and in a virtual team atmosphere
● Ability to adapt to dynamic project loads of different sizes
● Excellent interpersonal, verbal, & written communication skills
The Location
This position is hybrid and all equipment to perform the work required for the position will be provided.
