The Geoscience and Mines Branch of Natural Resources and Renewables, interprets and reports on mineral resource and environmental geoscience issues, and promotes mineral development opportunities to achieve optimum economic, social, and environmental value from the sector. Within the Branch, the Geological Survey Division includes, amongst others, a team of geologists largely responsible for delivering mineral resource, environmental, and data management/dissemination geoscience programs, mineral-investment promotional activities, and providing geoscience advice to government, the public, and mineral industry stakeholders.
The Geological Survey Division requires a co-op student to complete a critical minerals research project this summer and into fall. The position is based in Halifax, Nova Scotia.
The position will include desktop studies and a field component. As a part of this role there will be driving to some field sites and completion of field assessments. Depending on the length of drive there may be times when the student will have to stay at accommodations in various locations across the province. A vehicle, accommodations, food, and field gear will be provided for field work. Successful candidates must be comfortable undertaking outdoor work of a physical nature and be open to learning new field skills. Safety training will be provided before field work begins.

We are looking for a student enrolled in a co-op program and has completed their second year of study and who are returning to school as a full-time undergraduate or graduate student in a Geoscience or Environmental Science program in the fall of 2024.
We are looking for a candidate who is willing and able to work outdoors, have good communication skills, and are team oriented.
Proficiency in Microsoft Office products (eg., Word, Excel, Powerpoint) and/or GIS programs is an asset.
Candidates must have a valid driver's license and be comfortable driving in varied terrains. Applicants may be asked to provide a Driver Abstract at a later time.
You are able to work in Nova Scotia. You are a Nova Scotian resident or a student studying at a Nova Scotia university.

Salary Range: $17.86 - $29.11 Hourly
