We are currently seeking a dedicated and experienced Controller to join our leadership team.

The Role:
Reporting to the Director of Finance, you will manage and coordinate the entire accounting and control function of the Centre, ensuring accurate financial reporting and strategic financial management. Key responsibilities include direct supervision of the accounting department, financial analysis, preparation of reports, providing operational guidance, and maintaining compliance with accounting standards.

Qualifications and Requirements:

  • Completion of formal recognized professional accounting designation, such as CPA or equivalent
  • Extensive knowledge of accounting systems and controls, with practical experience in an accounting environment
  • Experience in preparing financial statements according to Canadian Public Sector Accounting Standards
  • 5 years of demonstrated experience in leadership, strategic planning, and team development
  • Proficiency in managing computerized accounting systems and related software (e.g., Microsoft Office suite, including Word, Excel, Teams, Outlook)
  • Experience with event management systems is an asset
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Detail-oriented with strong organizational abilities

Primary Functions and Responsibilities:

Financial Reporting and Analysis

  • Prepare and coordinate monthly financial statements and reporting packages
  • Maintain accountability for the Balance Sheet and conduct monthly account reviews
  • Reconcile all financial reporting into the accounting system
  • Oversee external auditors and preparation of audit working papers

Operational Oversight

  • Supervise accounting, purchasing, payroll, and cash control functions
  • Monitor cash position and coordinate funding requirements with external entities
  • Oversee parkade, cashier, and box office operations
  • Review contracts and agreements, initiate request for proposals and bids
  • Perform Duty Manager duties as required
  • Works with operations team to determine appropriate charges for events

Strategic Management

  • Develop and manage annual budget
  • Conduct financial forecasts and various financial analyses

Leadership and Team Management

  • Manage recruitment, hiring, and performance evaluations of department employees
  • Promote and drive engagement of our Guest Experience Program
  • Recommend new policies or changes to existing policies

Special Projects and Compliance

  • Coordinate payroll audits and perform special financial projects as needed
  • Prepare reports for regulatory agencies and participate in economic impact studies
  • Recommend and implement systems enhancements and efficiencies

Collaboration and Communication

  • Liaise with banking services provider to optimize financial outcomes
  • Coordinate ongoing training programs with Human Resources
  • Attend management meetings
