Maximum of 35 hours per week

Term effective ASAP to June 28, 2024

Summary: Under the direction of the school administrator, and in collaboration with the manager of community initiatives, the community connector will be responsible for the implementation of programs and activities that promote closer connections between schools and families, paying particular attention to families with pre-school children, Indigenous and newcomer Canadian families.

Responsibilities will include:

  • Facilitating and coordinating provincial services and resources that are available to support students, families, and schools
  • Experience working with Indigenous youth and families and knowledge of Indigenous cultures, traditions and cross-cultural perspective
  • Communication with and support of preschool parents in the RETSD community
  • Prepare program materials and resources and monitor their delivery
  • Participate in professional learning, training and staff meetings
  • Track program information and compile statistics
  • Outreach to the community parents
  • Development of a parent/family room or space
  • Volunteer program management
  • Promote student and family well being in ways that promote; student-school readiness, attendance, family, community and student engagement, wellbeing and success

Qualifications:

  • Training in River East Transcona’s early learning programs (or a willingness to be trained)
  • Resident/knowledge of the community areas of the River East Transcona School Division
  • Comfortable working with the Microsoft Office Suite and Teams app
  • An understanding of the parenting experience
  • Must enjoy working with parents and children in groups
  • Group facilitation training an asset
  • Working with diverse groups (students, parents, families) an asset
  • Available to work daytime and evening shifts as required
  • Training in volunteer management may be required (or a willingness to be trained)
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Excellent interpersonal skills
  • Ability to create positive and welcoming environments
  • Willing to work some evenings
  • External applicants must supply a Criminal Record Search and a cleared Child Abuse Registry check upon hire

Job Types: Part-time, Casual

Salary: $15.30-$16.43 per hour

Schedule:

  • Monday to Friday

Work Location: In person
