Part-time term position
2 classes per week (evenings), 2.75 contact teaching hours per class, plus prep
Term effective September 3/24 to June 27/25
Job Summary: The EAL instructor is responsible for planning and implementing EAL classes for Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada and eligible newcomer adult learners in accordance with Canadian Language Benchmark guidelines.
Duties and Responsibilities:
Plan, prepare and deliver lessons appropriate to assigned student groups (Canadian Language Benchmark levels 4 and 5)
Base course content and lesson plans on results of student needs assessments, and ensure compliance with IRCC program expectations
Incorporate Portfolio Based Language Assessment (PBLA) into all aspects of lesson planning, assessment and delivery
Prepare and submit program reports as requested
Submit attendance promptly, as directed
Follow up with students who do not attend class, complete and submit withdrawal forms as a priority
Unless exceptional circumstances arise such as illness or emergency, staff are expected to be present for their classes throughout each term
Knowledge, Skills, Education and Qualifications:
Teaching English as a Second Language Certificate from a TESL Canada certified institution
Undergraduate degree preferred
Knowledge of PBLA training required
Experience teaching within a Canadian Language Benchmarks framework
Understanding of LINC levels
Ability to work collaboratively as part of a team
Excellent written and oral communication skills
Computer competency in order to prepare reports as required
