Job Summary: Under the direction of the payroll supervisor, performs all the clerical and administrative functions for the administration, calculation and distribution of accurate wages and benefits to employees.
Responsibilities:
o Reviewing documentation for accuracy and adherence to collective agreements
o Using a computerized system to prepare, verify and process earnings for employees, and calculating adjustments, increments, overtime hours, extra hours and casual hours
o Maintaining seniority lists for various employee groups
o Responding to employee inquiries relating to earnings and benefits
o Responding to a wide variety of external and internal inquiries by email, telephone and in person
o Preparing payroll journal entries
o Preparing reports for schools and for invoicing external agencies for payroll related costs
o Preparing records of employment and other statutory reports as required
o Maintaining records of employee attendance
o Keeping up to date on all provincial and federal legislation
o Performing other related duties as assigned or as required including all duties of lower classified positions
Qualifications:
o A high school diploma or equivalent
o Completion of Payroll Compliance Practitioner (PCP) designation
o Minimum 2 years of experience in a payroll-related role; a combination of relevant education and experience may be considered
o Knowledge of related federal and provincial legislation and statutes and regulations of agencies, i.e. Income Tax Act, Employment Standards Code, Employment Insurance, Canada Pension, Canada Revenue
o Good accounting and mathematical skills
o Good public relations and communication skills with the ability to work cooperatively and harmoniously with colleagues and management, and deal effectively with the public
o Demonstrated professionalism and respect for privacy in dealing with sensitive and confidential employee information
o Excellent knowledge of Office 365 with demonstrated proficiency in Word and Excel and experience with Outlook and database software
o Word processing (minimum of 35 w.p.m.)
o Experience with CIMS Core and Connect is an asset
o High degree of initiative, organizational and time managements skills, with the ability to work with minimal supervision
o Ability to adhere to set schedules, prioritize and meet strict deadlines
