ABOUT SSCS:
Founded in 1978, Sea to Sky Community Services (SSCS) is one of BC’s most respected and
established community service organizations. We operate within a large geographic area -
from Pemberton to Britannia Beach - supporting individuals and families living in the Sea to
Sky Corridor. We offer 41 programs and services, including early childhood development,
childcare, affordable housing, outreach, counselling, family support, seniors and youth
services, community living services and respite. We provide a range of services that support
our communities and residents through all ages and stages of their lives. Last year, SSCS
served 5500 individuals and families in our region.
Contribution:
The Residential Care Worker works under the direction of the Residential Supervisor in
providing a comfortable home environment in which individuals with developmental
disabilities have the opportunity to live active and fulfilling lives. They work as part of a team
to ensure that individuals achieve personally meaningful goals for independence,
community access and skill development.
Qualifications:
1. Certificate in related human/social service field.
2. One (1) year recent related experience.
3. Or an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience.
4. Valid First Aid Certificate.
5. Valid Food Safe certificate.
Job Skills and Abilities:
1. Good communication skills, both written and verbal.
2. Ability to work as part of a team with a variety of staff, professionals, and other
members of the community.
3. Commitment and interest in the field of service to individuals living with a
developmental disability with preference given to direct experience working in the
field of Community Living.
4. Experience working with people who live with disabilities or mental health
challenges.
Responsibilities:
1. Participates in goal setting and program planning (Individual Service Plan) for
individuals living in a residence.
2. Assists residents with meal preparation, housekeeping, personal care skills and
personal finance and implements personal service plans.
3. Assists clients with activities of daily living such as feeding, lifts, transfers, hygiene,
grooming and toileting. This may include transfer of function duties.
4. Supports residents to locate and access community resources and provides
opportunities for social connections in accordance with their individual service plans.
5. Works with the residential team to maintain a safe and healthy environment for the
residents.
6. Administers medication to clients in accordance with established policy.
7. Facilitates the involvement of family members and friends in the lives of the residents.
8. Transports and assists residents to attend appointments, shopping or leisure activities.
9. Performs residence maintenance and housekeeping duties such as laundry,
sweeping, mopping floors, mowing lawns, inventory, shopping, cleaning equipment
and food services. Reports repair and maintenance concerns to the Residential
Supervisor.
10. Works with the residential team to identify areas of concern and improve service.
Provides constructive input and recommendations to improve existing policies,
procedures and protocols.
11. Maintains documentation such as charting, communications logs, daily activities of
residents and financial records as required.
12. Attends staff meetings, staff development and in-service training sessions as directed
by Residential Supervisor.
13. Maintains liaison with other agencies, professionals, government officials and the
community.
14. Performs other related duties as required.
Requirements:

Vacation & Leave: Employees accumulate 6% vacation pay on all hours worked in the first
and second year of employment. This equals 15 days of holidays (3 weeks/year). After the
first two years of employment, they earn one additional day of vacation per year of service,
to a maximum of 35 workdays.
Retirement Pension: A full-time employee will be enrolled in the Municipal Pension Plan with
a matching contribution by SSCS after 6 months of employment.

Compensation: As per the BCGEU Collective Agreement, the wage is $25.95 per hour.
