The Assistant Project Manager II is responsible for supporting the Project Manager and Program Director in the oversight and direction of National Ship Building Strategy (NSS) Programs. The position is responsible to assist in coordinating internal and external resources in support of meeting specific program cost, schedule, quality, and safety goals.   

Note: This position qualifies for an optional hybrid work schedule after 90 days of onsite work and onboarding. Employee will be subject to the terms of the Flexible Work Policy Agreement. 

What you'll do 

  • Assists senior project management in coordination and execution of assigned program activities and deliverables. Works closely with various departments ensuring the program delivers on expectations.
  • Support the co-ordination of Government Supplied Equipment and Material for the JSS Program
  • Monitors weekly program metrics to measure departmental, supplier and contractor program performance and risks.  Produces weekly and monthly program reports that measure program performance against established goals and objectives.   
  • Attends weekly program meetings and presents summary of key program issues to departmental representatives.  Works with departmental representatives, suppliers, contractors and team members in resolving outstanding program issues. 
  • Support Change Management for the JSS Project Management Office. Ensuring changes are assessed for cost and schedule impact, and ensure the change management process is being applied.
  • Develops reports and tracks departmental commitments.  Establishes due dates for commitments. Monitors program commitments to established schedule in support of maintaining program schedule, cost, safety and quality goals.   
  • Assists in coordinating internal and external resources in support of meeting program cost, schedule, quality, and safety goals.  Meets with suppliers and subcontractors to validate performance and ensure tasks are completed in support of program goals.   
  • Develops reports and communicates program goals to program partners.  Identifies deficiencies and works with partners to resolve.   
  • Assists in resolving program issues and risks and works various partners to expedite reviews and approvals that are impacting program schedules.   
  • Develops summary reports and proposals for key program performance metrics.  Distributes summary reports to senior management, identifies variances from plan, and assists in developing and monitoring corrective actions. 

What you'll bring

  • Post-secondary education in relevant discipline (Bachelors’ degree in Engineering or Business preferred) or an equivalent combination of education and experience. 
  • Project Management certification is an asset.  
  • Minimum 5 years of experience in shipbuilding, manufacturing, or construction industry, in progressively senior positions.  
  • Experience working with engineering, planning or production in the shipbuilding industry or in a complex manufacturing industry.   
  • Program management and project management skills.   
  • Communication skills; verbal, written and presentational.    
  • Ability to work with various team members in support of meeting program or project objectives.   
  • Technical skills with knowledge of modern shipbuilding design, procurement and production techniques are desirable.   
  • Knowledge of program performance metrics with the ability to identify key metrics and assist in the development of comprehensive performance reports.   
  • Knowledge of Earned Value Management Systems (EVMS), scheduling systems and resource planning techniques.   
  • Knowledge of Government contract administration procedures.   
  • Problem solving skills, analytical abilities and interpersonal skills. 
  • Customer service focus. 
  • Advanced computer skills (MS Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Project and SharePoint). 
  • Ability to multi-task and prioritize competing objectives.

The estimated salary for this position is $90,000 - $110,000. In determining final salary, Seaspan considers many factors including the successful Candidate’s skillset and experience as well as position location and internal equity. The final base salary offer will be at the Company’s sole discretion and presented as part of a competitive total compensation package.
