Who We Are

SFU's Temporary Pool provides in-house temporary placement service for clerical, secretarial and technical support for up to 3 months across all campuses (Burnaby, Vancouver, and Surrey) during periods of absence, work overload or for special projects.

About The Role

The Temporary Pool is a great way to gain work experience in the Post-Secondary Education Sector with one of BC’s Top Employers. It will provide you the opportunity to work in many diverse assignments, make connections, and is a recognized entry point to continuing employment at the University. Temporary Pool employees who want to maintain maximum flexibility can remain in the Temporary Pool, accepting assignments on a one-by-one basis .

Each assignment will differ in the work performed. Typical temporary work includes:

  • Office administration
  • Secretarial
  • Technical
  • Data entry
  • Reception
  • Graphic design
  • Web design
  • Event management

Qualifications

Qualifications for each assignment will vary based on the role, but employees must meet the following general requirements:

  • High School graduation or equivalent.
  • 2 years’ experience in a broad range of office functions.
  • Excellent knowledge of general office procedures and practices.
  • Knowledge of Mac and PC platforms.
  • 50 wpm keyboard skills with a high degree of accuracy.
  • Good organizational skills.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills with a demonstrated attention to detail.
  • Software proficiency – including Word, Excel, FileMaker, PowerPoint, Access, and Outlook.
  • Demonstrated ability to handle confidential material and information with discretion.
  • Demonstrated ability to work independently.
  • Demonstrated ability to adapt to changing office environments and assignment levels.
  • Demonstrated ability to exercise mature judgment and initiative.
