Position Purpose
Reporting to the Director of Communications, the Digital Communications Officer will provide digital and other forms of support to market Chef Ric’s, the Ottawa Mission’s social enterprise. The successful applicant must be able to work a variable number of hours per week as required to meet the marketing needs of Chef Ric’s.
Major Responsibilities
- Digital Strategy Development: Developing digital marketing strategies aligned with Chef Ric's overall business objectives, focusing on increasing brand visibility, driving website traffic, generating catering and storefront sales, and promoting FSTP recruitment.
- Content Creation: Producing engaging content for all social media channels. Collaborating with the culinary team to highlight menu items, catering options, and FSTP success stories.
- Social Media Management: Managing and growing Chef Ric's presence on social media platforms, including community engagement, and influencer partnerships. Monitoring social media trends and adjust strategies accordingly.
- Website Management: Overseeing the maintenance and updating of Chef Ric's website, ensuring it remains visually appealing, user-friendly, and optimized for search engines. Regularly update content, menus, and event information to reflect current offerings.
- Photography and Design: Capturing high-quality photos and videos of menu items, catering events, and FSTP activities for use in digital marketing materials. Designing visually appealing graphics, banners, and ads for online promotions.
- Analytics and Reporting: Monitoring key performance indicators across all digital channels, including website traffic, social media engagement, and eventually, email open rates. Using data insights to optimize marketing strategies and identify areas for improvement.
- Partnership Development: Identifying and cultivate partnerships with local businesses, influencers, and community organizations to expand Chef Ric's reach and enhance brand visibility.
- Event Promotion: Coordinating the promotion of special events hosted by Chef Ric's, such as holiday meals, graduation ceremonies for FSTP students, or community outreach initiatives. This may involve creating event pages on social media, designing promotional materials, and coordinating with local media outlets for coverage.
Other Requirements
Education
- Post-secondary degree or diploma in communications, marketing, journalism or a related field incorporating digital components.
Experience
- 3 – 5 years working within communications (including digital platforms), advocacy or community engagement, preferably within the not-for-profit sector.
- Experience in photography and video production.
Qualifications
- Ability to manage one’s time efficiently and effectively and adhere to strict deadlines and commitments.
- Must be conscientious and possess attention to detail across all tasks and products.
- Ability to adhere to strict deadlines and manage and respond to competing priorities
- Ability to flex schedule to accommodate task deadlines
- Ability to interact with employees at all levels of Chef Ric’s.
- Understanding issues that inform homelessness.
- Bilingualism considered a strong asset.
Working Conditions
- Primarily office environment
- Hybrid work/home split determined by Department Director
- Flexible schedule (varying hours per week; 50 to 60 hours per month)
- Must be comfortable working in a challenging environment that has the potential for confrontation and/or exposure to violence
